Did you make this rib eye steak yourself or did you get it at a restaurant?
Pardon me for a moment...I feel a rant coming on!
How can any Spurs fan feel anything but self-hatred right now? That team is a damn travesty. They represent everything wrong with the NBA.
My issues with them began a few years ago during a playoff series with the Sonics, during which I observed a truly disgusting amount of uncalled and unpunished flops, shoves, elbows and hip checks. Sure, the Sonics—or at least Fortson—got in a few licks. But the vast majority of the violence was committed by Ginobli, Parker, Bowen and the rest.
Also, Tim Duncan is a member of my least favorite club: NBA players who have never committed a foul in their lives. Every time the guy gets called for something, which because of the Superstar Rule doesn’t happen very often, he gets that shocked, snide look that makes me want to punch him in the liver.
So you can imagine my outrage in relation to the suspensions handed down the other day. The Spurs/Suns series, despite the best efforts of the Spurs to muck everything up with cheap shots, was turning into a classic.
Now they’re being rewarded for more of the same; Horry does something stupid and lame, potentially injuring the Suns’ best player, and the NBA responds by suspending two players who did nothing, NOTHING but get up off the bench and walk a few steps over, probably more to check on the status of their teammate than anything else. But Stu Jackson, Stern and the other numbnuts up at the front office say “it’s not about fairness, it’s about correctness,” lean on some stupid rule that Duncan himself broke earlier in the same game, and ruin the series.
Brilliant!
If the Spurs win another title, they’ll be hailed as one of the best teams ever for their success this decade. But their greatest success will always be the skill they bring to alienating fans, playing sloppy, dangerous basketball and working their forked tongues deep into David Stern’s buttocks.
Rant over. Thank you.
Amen. I lived in PA for 4 years, and Philadelphia Fevre is the real deal. Even if the LeFevres moved back to Philly a few years ago.
Where'd you get the pupusas? Not my beloved Salvadoran bakery in White Center I hope?
Mmmmm Philadelphia Fevre, yummy!
@#4: Um, you're kidding, right? In the Tri-state area, you get a greasier, meatier, 10-12 inch Philly steak for the same price ($7-$8) as Philadelphia Fevre's 6-incher. That place is a ripoff, and the sandwiches are just acceptable; not worthy of Ms. Garbes' rave.
Oops, meant #3. My bad.
Perhaps I should qualify: It's so rare to get any good meaty, bad for you stuff around here, that Fevre, though disappointing by Philly standards, seems like awesomeness.
Around here wings suck, BBQ sucks, burgers suck, and steaks are okay if you spend a fortune, but cheesesteaks are actually good.
Boo.
I Am a spurs fan, no self-loathing here. Alienating fans? Are you nuts? this is one of the best teams weve had in YEARS! Granted, tony parker is somewhat of a tool (more especially with the "rap" thing... yikes), and manu ginoooo-bly is, admittedly, an overdramatic flopper at times, but overall, they have the best defense in the NBA this year, which is rare for the spurs to have.
And just for that last comment about "forked tongues deep into David Stern's buttocks", i hope we win tonight. by a devastating 50 point spread.
Go spurs!!!

Spot on Matthew, but it’s worse: Tim Duncan gets to run off the bench, and that’s A-OK! No suspension for you!
Maybe someday I’ll watch a Spurs game where Bowen doesn’t attempt to injure an opposing player after a jump shot, but I ain’t counting my breath. He should be called for a double T every game he plays before the end of the 1st Quarter.
I can see the unthinkable soon happening: I will cheer for Utah, and then Detroit.
@1: upscale restaurant
@2: um, i think i love you. it's been a dark week as an nba fan and i've been trying to compose a post about the spurs-suns series. no need for that now.
@5: i grew up in pennsylvania, so point taken. i'm not saying fevre's sandwiches are "the best," and certainly not by pa standards, but throw in the counter/kenny/and the fevre vibe, and the food sort of almost doesn't matter
@8: amare's gonna kick your asses tonight.
@5
Wait, so there's another Philly place in Seattle that is as good as Fevre? I think the Fevre's a good sandwich, don't get me wrong... and I haven't found a Philly that's better, but I'm really on the lookout.
Angela.
Which upscale restaurant? Are they a Stranger advertiser?
Totally do not want the image of food grease dripping onto your face. Foul.
I think Philadelphia Fevre is the only place to get Tasty Kakes in the area. If only we could get decent soft pretzels.
13: Elsie the manwich,
Question for YOU:
Did you really believe it when they said there's no such thing as a dumb question?
You can get Tasty Kakes at Tat's Deli - they have them flown in.
And if the pupuseria is Salvadorean Bakery, I believe it. The food there is ok, but not worthy of the praise that gets lavished on it. You would do better to travel a little further south into Burien.
elswinger: the point of the post was not to hate on places where i ate this week. but no, the restaurant is not a stranger advertiser (and neither is the pupuseria or the french place, in case you're wondering aoout those...)
philly girl @ 15: tat's deli in pioneer square also has tastycakes. lemme know if you find a good pretzel...
I didn't mean to offend. What I should have asked was if the restaurant was a steakhouse or a "regular" upscale restaurant.
It's just I have been to a few of the upscale steak houses such as The Met, El Gaucho, and Morton's and some upscale restaurants that happen to serve steak and find that the regular restaurants have a different definition of what constitutes rare, medium rare, etc. Regular restaurants also seem to be much more inconsistent when it comes to cooking steak. I went to a restaurant in the Maple Leaf district and had an incredible steak (and affordable). The next time I went the steak was practically raw and by the time they brought it back, all my friends were done eating and the steak was way overcooked.
Go Spurs! Fifth place this year, and they're back in the UEFA cup next year, after a really dodgy start. The big question is can they not only keep Dimitar from going to Man U but get him a creative midfielder to go with?
Oh, wait, you're talking about basketball.
best soft pretzel in town is at licorous. i, too, partook of the offending steak. it was terrible.
