I just got a quote for a story I’m working on for tomorrow’s paper … via text message. The quote was from King County Council Member Dow Constantine who sent six texts to make his point.
Dow is hip & cool. I am proud to say that he is my rep. and I make it a point to have Martini's at West 5 with him on a regular basis in order to let him know my thoughts as a constituent. I like that in an elected official, someone who goes where the people are and tries to serve his Gen X supporters as well as his constituents who hang in church basements and Kiwanis’s pancake breakfasts…
NOOOO! Text messages are old school. I used to get stock quotes back in the 90's on my cell ... now I see all these adverts for texting and think "Well, they won't get me to shell out cash for that!"
Dow Constantine is on ST's board, yet ST2 has nothing for his constituents. He's got ZERO juice on that board.
Plus, light rail won't be at Northgate until 2025, because Dow and Nickels got out-negotiated by the Snohomish County bloc.
I hope you asked him why he is doing NOTHING for those who elected him. Oh, yeah, I asked him that once. He said he keeps forgetting which hat he's wearing (ST, SCC, whatever . . . .).
Dow is a real cool hipster. I saw him applauding for former coach Jim Owens at a Huskies football game once. I also saw him introduce DOA at the Capitol Hill block party. He really endeared himself to that crowd.
From today's P-I: Oden, when reached by text message, said he is excited about the opportunity to play in the Pacific Northwest, whether it be south or north: "I'd be happy to be chosen by either team. They are both good cities."
Something tells me, Josh, that this is common practice.

Dow's one of the good guys. When I ran for office myself, he was one of the very few elected officials who didn't treat me as if I had cooties.
Dow rocks!
