Music Today The Stranger Suggests

Posted by on April 8 at 12:00 PM

Slow Ride (Club Night) What if you knew about this crazy-good club night, but no one else did? Would you tell people and risk the night going ballistic? Or would you keep it to yourself? Slow Ride—featuring ’70s and ’80s FM rock—is the best club night you haven’t heard about yet. The last time I went, hiphoppers played air drums to Billy Joel while students from Cornish danced all over. (War Room, 722 E Pike St, 328-7666. 9 pm, free, 21+.) TERRY MILLER

Oooo Look at me I listen to retro! "STILL!"
Involvement in pop culture that is based upon solely on the past all the time is getting tired. In the 70's 80's and 90's there was solid interesting music happening. The people that were doing anything that was retro usually got their que from watching too much "Happy days" on TV or listening to too much Beach boys. That is how I view retro cool now. It sucks, is unoriginal and has gone on way too long. I think the first retro 80 band I can remember was "Pulp" around 1995 they did there thing and moved on. The waring of trucker hats, having a cool looking mullet doo was popular then too and I still see people doing the whole retro thing. Kinda like watching the character "Stuart" from Mad TV from awhile back saying "Look what I can Do"! Ya look! You listen to old 70's, 80's mainstream tunes. Big deal. It was boring mainstream then and it is boring mainstream now. Thankfully I hated that music then and still hate it.
Now if someone would play Nona Hendrix with Material, Howard Devoto and Magazine, ESG or some ON U Sound then I might think it an intelligent retro trend but FM crap that was hated even back then. Remember style based upon "Anarchy" and change or doing something new this style based upon "Submissiveness" and stagnation and doing nothing new. I am sure there is something far more interesting to do out there than listen to old FM tunes. Oh right you are being cool. Sorry!
Move on it is over.
