Sexson has 5 RBI's his first two games...then goes 0-2 against a dominant Rich Harden...and you're pissed?
...fucking seattle fans.
I was so thrilled with the first two games. To think we might have a great season. Then Miggie was just falling apart out there. OMG, he was sweating and mumbling to himself. . .he has GOT to get it together. We can't have that again! just can not. . .
The Mariners are 2-1 and just pole-axed their league rival to open the season. Stick to writing about porn festivals if you can't cover sports right.
Stranger sports update. Next up, ESPN on
the viaduct! No really, keep it up. It's cute.
Seriously, did you actually watch Harden last night? He was fantastic. The shutout was his success much more than a Mariner's failure.
Batista, OTOH, may be another matter...
#1, #4, and #5: You're right. I was too hard on the M's when I wrote the post still bleary-eyed from the morning. Harden was fantastic. And 2-1 is nice indeed.
Batista still scares me, though.
The Royals got a taste of Dice all right: 10 K's and only one run in 7 incredible innings.
@4 I hardly think going 2-1 against the A's is a pole-axing, but yes, it's a series win and that's good.
Batista onwards through the rotation will be interesting as these guys'll have to find their way into the M's 2007 effort. You knew more or less what you might get from Felix and Washburn. The last three have the additional pressure of showing up in town and making nice by making an immediate impact. Fans booing Batista as he walked off was a tad knee-jerk for me.
I'm cutting Batista some slack. It wasn't a pretty outing. It was so sloppy, I felt bad for the guy. He's obviously got skills, he just didn't have 'em handy last night. I doubt Batista's confidence is crumpled because of it.
And as Brad mentioned, there was no offense to help pick up Batista. Not even any chipping away after the A's had 5 in the top of the second. We could have lost the game 1-0. It was Harden's game. So be it.
I say we find a pitcher named Castro and have him take over for Batista, eh comrades?
Batista will be fine, folks. Decent, mediocre, middle of the road guy. He'll probably end up looking (falsely) above average in Safeco. It's Jeff Friggin' Weaver you have to watch out for. Ho Ram doesn't exactly set off the Thrillometer either.
