Eli...

It's impossible to know how much Pure would have gotten done, and how quickly, since she's not in the legislature. You can credit JP without sliming SP.

I don't care if he looks like a boy scout, Jamie rocks.

I know the ragamuffins around here like to bash him because he worked for PG&E, but a place like that teaches you how to get shit done.

After much back and forth, I voted for Pedersen and I'm glad I did. Keep pushing back. You were right!

I agree with, Dan, no need to slime Pure. If you're going to slime anyone, let it be Josh and Erica for stubbornly promoting Pure in this paper without disclosing that she's a good friend.

No shit it would be easy to write gay marriage legislation, Jamie. It was pretty simple to write the domestic partnership legislation too--just lift it from CA! I just wish we had a legislator who wasn't too chickenshit to draft legislation by and for the citizens of Washington.

Well, he IS a tool, and tools do get things done*. That's why they're called tools.

Also, I don't think Eli's point was so much to 'slime Pure' but simply to say that a) she would not have been as effective as the more-savvy Pedersen and b) that Pedersen isn't necessarily as ineffective as it was expected he'd be.

Now, whether or not these things are true is up for debate, but the point certainly wasn't to smear Pure's rep.

Sean @ 2: Jamie still works for Preston Gates and Ellis, the law firm now known as K&L Gates. According to his website profile, he is Of Counsel in the Seattle office (a title often given an attorney who is neither an associate, nor a partner). Josh and Erica's concern wasn't that Jamie worked for PG&E, it was that he was likely to continue working for the firm after his election, given the low salary of state legislators. Let's be fair and note that they were correct.

I didn't read it as Pure Sliming either. The Erica and Josh comments stood out more.

Does anyone else out there relish threads like these as an insight into Stranger office politics? I can practically hear the axes grinding.

Sliming, Dan? I assume we must be missing some background here like Eli skipping around the Stranger offices burning a Pure campaign t-shirt or something.

Eli, Dan's point is valid. Why would you assume that my sis would be unable to get things done?

Dan, thanks for highlighting this.

My understanding is that The Stranger's endorsement was granted after a fairly rigorous interview process.

Dan, thanks for highlighting what appears to be an error in Eli's logic.

My understanding is that The Stranger's endorsement was granted after a fairly rigorous interview process.

I appreciate the back and forth within the Stranger staff. Who wants a bunch of dittoheads? Leave that to the neocons.

I don't see how it was sliming Pure either - it was just Eli's opinion, not a nasty comment. That said, I'm unsure what he bases it on - I'm sure Pure has learned something about getting things done while working on City Council staff. After all, she works for Peter Steinbrueck, not Nick Licata. In addition, Frank Chopp seemed very successful at making sure first-term D's got at least one of their bills passed.

What I'm really wondering is what Eli is going to do with his $12 for renewable energy.

WHAT.

I appreciate the back and forth within the Stranger staff. Who wants a bunch of dittoheads?

Meanwhile...

Erica, Josh, Sarah Mirk, Annie Wagner, Dan Savage, and David Schmader opposed Pedersen.

Because Erica, Josh, Sarah Mirk, Annie Wagner, Dan Savage, and David Schmader all endorsed Pure. Erica, Josh and Dan all endorse the surface/transit option. And Peter Steinbrueck. And "smart growth." And need I cite a multitude of other examples? If this is not walking, talking, breathing dittothink, then what is?

I mean, do half of you readers have any critically thoughtful perspective? Or is the lack thereof what makes up the bulk of this rag's leadership?

I wouldn't consider one nice article on Pederson the "verdict" on his term as a Rep. I think he did a decent job, but I don't think we can slap our hands together and walk away.

Kudos for a great article, Pederson. Now let's get the ball rolling for renters next year.

@15

Yeah, I wrote that before reading Erica's post, which was up at the same time as mine.

I can see arguing issues on the merits - I don't understand the "everyone else thinks this way, why don't you?" mentality, whether it's Rush or anyone else.

It's cool, Ebenezer. Just looking to maintain perspective.

I mean, do half of you readers have any critically thoughtful perspective? Or is the lack thereof what makes up the bulk of this rag's leadership? twenty people pile on anyone who doesn't partake in group think, therefore the only people who stick around are the true believers. so to answer your question, no. the lack thereof is what makes up the bulk of this rag's readership as well.

on a related note: "You can credit {person a} without sliming {person b}." has to be the funniest thing i've read on slog. ever. i'm assuming it's working on an extra-dimensional level of irony that i'm not privy to.

She straddled his thighs and slipped her arms about his neck, smiling at him, as she bucked and ground her hips, careful not to brush her crotch against the bulge of his erection. She arched her back, thrusting her shapely breasts forward, knowing the guy was aching to grasp her swaying orbs, dying to envelope her nipples with his hot mouth. But the customers were not allowed to touch the girls. well not officially! He groaned with unrequited desire, and pushed a twenty-dollar bill into the waistband of her panties, with fat, trembling fingers. She was one of three similarly attired, near naked girls, who were simultaneously writhing their sweet tushes over the laps of three seated male club members, while dozens more customers looked on, eagerly awaiting their own turn, including several women. Jenny had been working at the lap-dancing club for three weeks now, and was getting pretty good at this ultimate in sexual titivation. The money was pretty good, if you included the tips and she got plenty. She rubbed the guy face between her shapely breasts, finally allowing him to kiss and suck on her erect nipples, as she arched her spine and threw her head back, gasping with genuine pleasure. Finally the pounding musical accompaniment drew to a close and the lap-dance ended. As he pushed another twenty into the top of her flimsy underwear, she asked, in a husky voice, Would you like for me to dance for you privately, sir? They both knew what this really meant. If the guy agreed, another girl would replace her, while she was away, and her cut of the extra fee, would be a cool hundred bucks. It was the part of the job that Jennifer least liked, but she had to agree to it, if she wanted to stay employed.
