Everyone’s talking about the rush by many states to hold earlier presidential primaries next year.

Add to all that: The MySpace primary.

Hell, I think we should hold our primary in Washington state for the 2012 Presidental campaign this summer. I mean, we want to be first right?

But something that has confused me about this upcoming election is this. WHO was thinking to themselves in 2000 or 2004 what we really really want is a campaign that goes on for 24 months or longer? And the other side to that is simply this. Democratic victories are mainly based on large voter turn out. Is this long campaign season going to turn off voters from showing up when it matters in November of 2008?

We need to limit the entire campaign process to a MAX of 6 months.

There should be only four primary dates, on consecutive Tuesdays beginning on the first Tuesday in August. They should be regional, with all the states in a region (equal in electoral votes overall) voting at once. The order of regions should be either by drawing lots or by a strict rotation. I'm sick of this shit creeping ever backwards towards the eventual permanent campaigning.
