To be fair, Jean Shepherd is the one who really gave us Christmas Story since the movie was based on his short stories.

2

I never thought of those two movies as having anything in common. But now a double-feature seems somehow... necessary.

3

my mom has watched a christmas story about 100 times.

i watch it for the night stalker connection - darren mcgavin! you go!

I never got to see Porky's, and I think it's better enshrined mythically in my mind as some great, lurid sexual caper. If I actually watched it, I probably wouldn't like it, and that would be sad.

5

I remember seeing Porky's in the theater in 1981 or whenever it was released, one of my first R-rated experiences. They kind of shit they were able to pull off in that movie, you never see in Hollywood "gross-out comedy" fare these days. I saw it recently, and to be sure, the movie's dated, but still...

And I got so excited thinking about Kim Catrall, that I clicked post twice,

I was 16 when Porky's hit the theaters, and about all I can remember about it is sitting in the theater thinking "What's the big deal? This movie really sucks." I'd seen better T&A on late night Canadian TV, and beyond thinking it was a waste of my $4 I don't have much memory of the movie at all (all the drinking later that evening probably contributed to that).

I just happened to be in Scarecrow today when they were playing it in memoriam, so I stopped to watch a little bit of it. All I can say is: my 16-year-old self was too kind.

9

Sure, it was hokey--but it had male (frontal!) nudity and extensive homoerotic overtones. Or maybe that was just me...

10

R.I.P. and all that, but this is also the man responsible for "Baby Genuises" and "Rhinestone."
