The people have spoken and the people are right—the Pride Parade must be held on Joel Connelly!

No, we won't, @9.

We moved it last year just for you, it's time for you to fix things yourself.

@10, Will in Seattle- I actually *AGREE* with your posting- a bit of sarcasm on my end. The Solstice events are: 1) more creative and entertaining 2) able to pull off their events with no threat of folding, though I'm sure funding and logistics can be just as hard 3) Solstice for years has had a GLBT presence in the audience and in the parade itself. I wonder if SOAP ever got advice from Solstice, Folklife, and other events how they handle accounting, logisitics, etc. It's too late now, but it sure could have helped!

Hold it in Sandpoint Idaho... they need some enlightenment. Why preach to the choir in Seattle?

I have not gone to a gay pride parade for about 8 years. There is always so much to do on that weekend that I just never seem to make it. It's always sunny and there are so many things to do in this beautiful city of ours.

But I have to say it looked pretty fun last year. I saw my friends photo's of all the boys and girls dancing in the fountain and it looked like a blast. If they have it downtown this year I might just go...no promises though. I like to keep my options open. (I did watch some of it on tv)

Local community organizations: Boycott the parade. Your entry fee will be used to pay off SOaP's bad debt, with no corresponding benefit to your organization, which has historically derived nearly all of the benefits of Pride from the festival, not the parade(membership, outreach, fundraising).

Isn't anyone flabbergasted that SOaP is going to pay off its 2006 blunder on the backs of local community organizations? This year in particular, make Bud Light and Starbucks and Microsoft foot the bill, or, better yet, put SOaP out of business completely by refusing to enter.

Banish the parade. The "gays" who do march are often the freaks of our community, which is the exact opposite image we should be exporting to the rest of society.
Bitter lesbians and gay men freaks are really not the majority of the gay populace, so if its a gay parade, banish the idiots and losers and let the real gay majority march, the fathers and mothers, the lawyers and surgeons, the real gays of our society.

@16:
If people aren't going to get their freak on, the parade would be more boring than Seafair.

My all time favorite parade group? The Topless Lesbian Riot Grrl Muff-Diving Crack Squad, circa '93 or '94. I've never seen such perfectly synchronized pussy eating. Where are those talented women now?

Rufus. Banish the idiots and losers? The "real gay majority"?

This is why we have to have a free speech march. I don't know if Rufus is gay or not, but it's apparent there's still a need to show that LGBT people represent a diaspora of society. People aren't "real" just because they have a graduate education or are a parent. Everyone is a part of the fabric of society, even those that make others uncomfortable. Do I agree with all of it? Absolutely not. But I'll defend to the core the rights of those people to be who they are. That's kind of the point.

My Ass: If you want a legitimate debate on the merits of whether the event should be on Cap Hill or downtown, lets have it. My only requirement to engage with you is that you use your name or show your face. Your anonymous bomb throwing does nothing to bring the community together and strengthens the spine of those like Rufus.

@16:

1) It doesn't matter if we march wearing feather boas or Log Cabin suits, we are still gay, and we will still be demonised because of it. Because it's not our behaviour or imagery that is threatening to the status quo, it's our entire existence.

2) When heterosexuals have similar events at carnivales, said expression is not blamed on their heterosexuality. But oh god, when the gays break out the BDSM, it's all because they're homos, isn't it? See point four about the validity of this train of thought.

3) Carnivales and the like that Pride Parades are part of are not about acceptance, and never have been. They are about community building and letting-off-steam for the group conducting them. They are not a warm-and-fuzzy event for outsiders, ever. Even when they were not focused around sexuality, outsiders were always shocked and appaled at the behaviour displayed. Why? Because it's not about them. It's about those inside the community who really understand what the event is about.

4) Any bigot who is stupid enough to think that just because someone is a sexual extrovert (a lesbian riding a motorcycle, a guy in a G-string and a feather boa, or anything else you care to name in pride parades) they don't deserve the basic human rights said bigot is already granted by society, deserves to be offended, and often.

5) At the most basic level, human rights are not a matter of "majority rules". It doesn't matter if the majority of the population think granting other minority community human beings rights is stupid, and it especially doesn't matter when the ruling system of government does not work on majority-rules facts anyway (which the US government does not do and never has done). So whether or not gays at pride parades are "accepted" by the majority of people in a bigoted country has absolutely zero relevance as to whether or not they are to have their human rights protected by law.

Does anyone even care about the parade anymore? It is back, then it is dead then it is back from the brink..... We all know that it will be dead again in a week or so.
