??!! Sir What?

From a recent New York Times story about the release of the British hostages:

Boarding two naval helicopters, they then left for their base in Devon, where they are to be debriefed and to undergo medical and psychological checkups, said Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, chief of the defense staff.

Well, really - who wouldn't want to be debriefed and medically examined by Jock Stirrup? Sounds hot...especially when you get a look at some of those hostages.

On first reading I thought it said "Sir Jock Stirrup, chief defense of the staff."

British parents have the cruelest sense of humour in the world.

But if he ever leaves the military, he surely has a job waiting for him at the Ministry of Silly Walks.
