Sad. David Halberstam Dies.

All-star reporter David Halberstam—who cut his teeth as a reporter during the Vietnam War, eventually writing the landmark The Making of a Quagmire and winning a Pulitzer for his NYT reporting on the war— died in a car crash today.

This is really sad news. "The Best and the Brightest" should be required reading for anyone who tries to express an opinion on diplomacy and warfare. Halberstam knew that the most dangerous kind of President (or Secretary of Defense) is one who is certain he's right, no matter what the facts say.
