Arts Poor Little Grindhouse

All the film blogs are doing Grindhouse post-mortems (it earned only a “pokey” $11.6 million over Easter weekend), but if you’re a normal person, it probably does not surprise you that our aggravatingly religious nation was not about to plunk down ten bucks on Good Friday for 3+ hours (!) of Rose McGowan clomping around with a machine gun for a leg.
However, if you have any heart thumping in your chest, you will want to know how to stop the Weinstein brothers from inflicting their rotting vision (Miss Potter, Factory Girl) on the world. This New York Times article has hints. I have another: Avoid the 2008 meerkats doc like the plague. Meerkats are cuter than penguins. Meerkats are too cute for the big screen. You will go into cardiac arrest.
It was Rose McGowan with the machine gun leg, not Rosario Dawson.
And technically, she's only in "Planet Terror," one of two films in the "double feature."
@2 Rose McGowan is in both films (she plays Pam in Death Proof), but she only has the machine gun leg in Planet Terror.

Grindhouse rules. It is schlocky, awesome fun. It does not feel like 3+ hours and I actually had to convince one of my companions that it was 3+ hours long.
If they recut it and release it as two separate movies, I will cry. It's an awesome double feature!
I saw it on Saturday, and I'm going to see it again this weekend, and I will probably see it when it goes the discount theater by my house. Then I will buy it on DVD.
My husband and I loved Grindhouse. It was grotesque, hilarious and hot as hell, which is pretty much a summary of Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday.
We saw it last Saturday in a theater filled with meat head jock boys that screamed like they were at a football game.
On Sunday we attended the annual Hunky Jesus contest in Dolores Park hosted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
San Francisco sets the standard, yet again. America can't handle it. Bunch of pussies.
I loved Grindhouse. I totally laughed my ass off. It was completely over the top, silly, gruesome mayhem. And personally I thought it was poetic to happily plunk down my $10 to see it on Easter Weekend. But I'm weird that way.
I'm not all that surprised that lots of people thought it wasn't the best choice for Easter. Wimps.
