The Virginia Tech shooter—mentally ill, a danger to himself and others—bought his ammo on eBay.

According to the article, he just bought the clips on eBay--not the ammo itself.

Buy your guns and bullets anywhere you want, shoot anyone you want. It's the NRA way of doing business. I have two things to say about the events in Virginia, one those students and staff are heros Thanks to the NRA who say "freedom isn't free", some one has to pay the price. 32 people paid for the right of the NRA to have their guns. Second point, our dunder head of a President said the students and staff where at the "wrong place at the wrong time". What the Fuck? Students and professors are supposed to be at the U. Gheeezuz what an idiot.

Are you talking about the the aeronautics engineer prof Holocaust Survivor who was the hero?

When I was 14, my uncle died as a merchant marine off of Chile's coast. My grandfather survived WWII, my dad survived Korea, as a kid I was introduced to WWI vetererans. These men talked about their experiences (and two still do occasionaly). They would talk sometimes to their friends and coworkers of any faith.

I've read some of the horrors described by Bernard Malamud and Elie Weisel, also Maus by Art Spigelman. Why do I never meet any of these Holocaust survivors? Was the horror too traumatic to talk about? I always seem to encounter a dead one through the media. The prof was only 76. Please, if any of you out there, give a speech at Benaroya Hall. Your personalized accounts will be appreciated.

@#3-
There's a series of Holocaust survivor speaking events being held on SCCC's campus this month. Here's the info for the next one:
Thomas Blatt - Instigator and survivor of the
prisoner revolt at the death camp of Sobibor
will be speaking on Monday, April 23rd at 11 a.m. in BE1110. Mr. Blatt is one of a handful of survivors alive today who succeeded in overcoming the Germans at the camp and in setting free 600 prisoners. Don't miss this unique opportunity to hear his story and to connect with living history. Classes are welcome.

No, actually, it's not. But why argue with the NRA's actual position when you can just make shit up, right?

Wow, thanks Lauren @4. It looks like Thomas Blatt has survived well. He's made a movie and spoken twice before at SCCC. I couldn't find the listing for this April 23rd after googling, but I don't think I'll be able to get off work anyway.

You've really made me think to start asking my Jewish aquaintenances (gay friends as well) if they can hook me up with Holocaust survivors that they know.

I've been fascinated by survivor's stories for about the past 20 years. Vietnam vets are always the most interesting for me. I've had numerous cups of coffee and been to parties with guys who've had legs blown off, had plastic surgery that didn't do them justice, and of course the very mentally scarred ones.

I wouldn't say I'm morbid, more touched if anything by what they went through. The details and the way they reflect, I guess it's been referred to as the 1000 yard stare, it's just a mixture of weird, sorrowful and amazement. Movies like Platoon and Full Metal Jacket are what probably started the interest, yet talking with these varied men has opened up a whole different type of empathy.

Is your email somewhere on the BDSM site? That's not so much my scene, but if you know any survivor's yourself who I might be able to chat with, it would be interesting. No book in the works here, just a different perspective and probably very inspiring. Thanks again.

ordered gun #1 off the internet, picked it up at a pawn shop.
bought clips at the gun range.
bought ammo at walmart.
fired 175 bullets.

normal stuff for a well-regulated militia member.

Rubber ducks make great grenades and IEDs.
