History Iran and Phenomenology

Posted by on April 9 at 15:35 PM

Iran is not only enriching uranium but also Hegelian scholarship:

The Iranian Institute of Philosophy in Tehran will host an international conference on the 19th century German philosopher Hegel to commemorate the influential thinker’s 200th birthday.

But we must not be alarmed by the call for this conference. It is a matter of common knowledge among Hegelian scholars that the section on natural religion in Phenomenology of Mind begins with the Zoroastrian idea of “God as light.” So falling upon Persia, in the history of Hegel’s world, is “the light of sunrise.”

Clearly, we must attack before they understand Hegel & use him against us!

I assume this will be another farce that "proves" the Holocaust didn't happen and Jews eat Christian and Muslim blood in their matzoh. Who's the Hegelian scholarship equivalent of David Duke?

3

Hegel? Charles, your intellectual development seems to have stalled somewhere in 19th century Europe. Since then, the world of philosophy has seen numerous phases, culminating in post-structuralism, which revealed the whole enterprise to be nothing more than a big circle jerk.

Since then, philosophy has gone the way of Latin, unless you count the occassional essay by Woody Allen, or the random conference held in a backwater nation.

Ego sum iustus trying iuvo.

Charles, you keep on it. It's all good...er, ok, um nah.. it's all -
Lascaux, the enlightenment, Latin -ad libidum. Fnarf, that would be funny if you could dig up an answer to your question. Maybe it's Nietzsche. I was all about being a good/bad Christian until he unveiled the honourable hoax of 'forgiveness.'

Apparently they've learned that if you live in a place that's relatively hard to get to and mostly uninviting but full of history and where you almost certainly need to learn a difficult language to get by, the trick to drawing people in is to invite germans.
Mark my word, in three generations time Iranian music will sound like Mexican Banda. The Germans are sneaky like that.

In this previous post:

you mentioned that Dennis Kucinich is the only presidential candidate who was against the Patriot Act. This is not true. Congressman Ron Paul of Texas is running for President and voted against the Patriot Act, one of the few Republicans to do so. He also voted against the Iraq War. He has a great moral stance. He is an obstetrician and he's just great. (Not a vegan, but not everyone can be perfect, right?)

Ron Paul in 2008!

Um, Iran is a nation of millions with universities and all that, just like the real live country that it is. It is possible that an event or two might happen there that's not related to uranium enrichment or Holocaust denial. But then, I suppose, Iran only exists in the ways that it impacts us in the news, right?
Next up: Iranian teachers teach math!
