They are genius. This notebook is genius. I am enthralled. I was mildly depressed that someone decided to steal the notebook, but saw it as a grand entry into the book all its own. IT makes it even better than a) you wrote about stealing them, b) you're returning them, and c) it really was its own entrance into the social commentary that is contained in these notebooks.
