Lala is a 14-year old king penguin rescued from a fishing line by a Japanese family. After they nursed the bird back to health, it refused to leave their home. Now Lala the pet penguin wears a penguin backpack on his way to the fish market to pick up fresh seafood for his adopted family and grab a snack for himself.
Penguins got soul.

Okay fine, but is he toilet trained? Seriously, any animal that small that can swallow a whole fish that large must leave some nasty droppings.
Still, it IS a cute story. And even more amazing considering Lala has survived for 10 years in an urban environment without getting run over.
One of my favorite books as a child was "Mr. Popper's Penguins". I always used to want a one for a pet. That impractical desire has now been rekindled. Thank you!
I'm sorry, it is cute, but I can't get over the fact that Lala's super-refridgerated room is slowly leading to the destruction of his species natural habitat. He might as well be human.
