Guggenheim Fellowship for Ann Gale

posted by on April 9 at 9:35 AM

The Guggenheim Fellowships have been announced, and one goes to Ann Gale, professor of painting at UW. Below are a few of her works, with plain reference to Lucian Freud, Alberto Giacommetti, even Cezanne. I’ve never seen them in person, but they do carry a certain weight even in reproduction.

If art is the search for truth then Ann Gale is looking in the right direction. Portraiture is the most pure form of art and her mastery of it is truly exceptional. I am very happy that she has received this well deserved award. Hopefully we will begin seeing more of her work in the Seattle area.

She's using the glass filter in photoshop. Pretty neat effect.
