Politics Giuliani Supports Public Funding for Abortions

Posted by on April 4 at 15:55 PM

In 1989, Rudy Giuliani said this:

And today he stood by his statement in support of public funding for abortions. Angry press releases from every religious right organization in the country coming in 3… 2… 1…

Wow, that's ballsy! I'm impressed.

Don't get me wrong. I am no Guiliani fan but I think I am going to send him a check right now thanking him for standing by his support of a woman's right to choose. Good for him!

I wouldn't be so surprised if this isn't a view secretly held by many conservatives -- that poor women SHOULD have abortions, along the lines of Bill "Abort-the-black-babies-and-reduce-the-crime-rate" Bennett.

Don't worry, he's a Red, and they flip-flop on these things like crazy.

Tomorrow he'll be talking about missions to Mars to find oil.

Kos was taking issue with his confused statements regarding consitutionaliy surrounding this. I am 100% impressed that he is consistant in his stance over the years, but i think it's troubling that his justification is some murky pseudoconstitutional stuff. especially since he'll probably be put to the fire to defend this position.

Like any sane citizen, I support a woman's right to an abortion -- but I it always bothered me that since so many are opposed to it, then why should the govt. pay for it? Since there are charitable organizations that can help women in need, why is there a need for public funds? People get in a bind in life but the govt. doesn't help out (like when the clutch goes out on your car). Just asking, I'm not a right wing nut.

Gore/Giuliani in 2008!

Damn, was kind of hoping it was a video of him singing the Sex Pistols *Bodies*.

*Dragged on a table in factory
Illegitimate place to be
In a packet in a lavatory
Die little baby screaming fucking bloody mess
Its not an animal its an abortion*

Mummy!

raindrop: because unwanted babies become criminals that the government pays a hell of a lot more for. In general.

Remember he flip-flopped about the assault weapons ban; I'm surprised he would do that, and then be consistent about this. Maybe he's decided to try to be the anti-McCain.

Raindrop:

Its more that those babies would rely on the welfare system. I would rather pay $500 for someone to have an abortion than pay upwards of $200,000 in raising a child through welfare.

Plus, I think that it would be better for a woman to have one if she wants. Nothing worse than forcing women to have kids because they are poor, and then keep them even more poor by having them rely on welfare.

If Giuliani wins, will he be the first president with a lisp?
