Edwards did great, Clinton did pretty well, Obama looked wooden and said the same stuff he always says, Richardson way underperformed expectations and came across as both conservative and unprepared, Biden and Dodd are still running, apparently, Kucinich is more articulate than he usually gets credit for, and some crazy fucking old guy was on stage too, yelling. No big surprises.

Interesting. Thanks for the recap. I still don't quite undestand why Obama has become the darling of the liberal elite. Sullivan, in particular, SWOONS over Obama, and yet, no one seems able to explain what it is about Obama's positions on ISSUES that turns them on. All style and no substance, and now apparently, even his "style" is wooden?

I won, by not watching this synthetic, postured, premature waste of time.

It actually changed my perception of the candidates a bit. I was prepared to hate Hillary as much as I usually do, and be blown away by Obama....and it didn't quite work out that way.

I thought Hillary did great (I cant believe I'm saying that) and Obama seriously underperformed. Edwards was OK, and I thought Richardson actually did better than expected, to at least jump into top-tier consideration.

The best part of the debate was Mike Gravel doing his best James Stockdale impression. He came across as down right crazy. I think he was asked 3 or 4 questions and was definitely marginalized by pretty boy Brian. CLinton and Dodd came off the best. Edwards was so-so. Obama who I wanted to impressed by stumbled a little bit on some of the questions. Its early I think he will improve. Richardson showed us he can count but came across as too folksy and bushlike for my taste. I know he is way more intelligent and more accomplished than that so it was unfortunate.

Thanks for the recap, I had no clue about the program on tonight.
Here's who I'd like to debate:

Phil Early. Phil writes a Letter to the Editor entitled NO MORE LINDY in this week's issue.

Judge for yourself how snide it sounds. I'll ante up my share to have a debate about cinema. Phil, Charles and I can field questions from Lindy regarding an essay on cinema by Gilles Deleuze, author of a nice little book on Spinoza's ethics.
Look through it on my name's link.
Lindy, keep on, keepin on.

Bush and all the GOP lost the debate.

Big time.

It is disapointing that Richardson can't break through. On Kos's poll, he was just ahead of Kucinich. I really had high hopes for him.

That said, as long as Bush doesn't suspend the elections & declare martial law, I think we all win.

I was not super impressed by any of them but debates really are too staged to begin with. I did want Obama to do better than he did though but his answers seemed to try to have some thought. (Nice change from Bush but America no longer "likes" thoughtful leaders)

Afterward I just regretted that Gore did not enter the race. So my advise to all is to sit back and enjoy the decline of America! It is going to be one hell of a ride!!!

Number 11:

No, you're right, he's not. Sorry, I was tired when I wrote that. I should have written "EVEN Sullivan swoons." But I still don't get the Obama-mania.

Pebbles, the crazy old man, was one of the best things to happen to a political debate since the crazies descended on our last mayoral debate. LONG LIVE PEBBLES

More importantly I watched the Senate Vote that was on the Senate channel. The fact that the 13 dems skirted it, Liberman went Repug and voted nay, and two repubs went Dem and voted yay, and how they argued their reasons, i came to the conclusion that the dems who voted for the Bill are the ones I want in office and the two republicans also.
The fat bullheaded Republicans were all this is going to make us lose the war, and flexing how they were all behind the troops just turned me off. The terroists will win , we must fight for the next thousand years just to vindicate their efforts-screw that.
the President is going to Veto it as soon as he sees it. Thats fucked up. He should have been there at the Senate and listend to what the Senators who voted for the Bill were saying. they presented good arguments for the bill. Oh well no worrys I hear they are going to make another one, And we only have one more year of this.
Troops home now. And we did not lose the war if we do republicans. so shut up and stop saying we lost and the terroists will win. Its stupid.

And that Gavens guy from Alaska, the old man vieng for presidental candidate is right on. He may look crazy when he was on but he put it in perspective verbally and visually how most of you all feel about the war in Iraq and all he was saying is enough of the BS. bring the troops home as soon as you can. The people want that earnestness from a candidate, and in 2008 we do not want a wishy washy Dem stalling to get this feat done. If the president can Veto a bill by tuesday night, what could any of the Dems do to rectify that come when they are elected. This is going to be a exiting battle this year in DC politics thats for sure. And Gavens just may be the guy to break some balls, preferably toward the republicans next time.
