City Bullets Found in High-School Bathroom

Posted by on April 25 at 17:06 PM

Just after 11:00 a.m. on April 24, Seattle Police arrived at (my alma mater!) Nathan Hale High School near Lake City Way, after a male student found a clip of 22-caliber bullets in the handicapped stall of a first-floor bathroom across from room 124.

According to the police report filed by Officer Outlaw (yes, that’s really his real name), the item was secured and placed into evidence for fingerprint analysis. The report notes that “there is currently no information on the item’s owner.”

After the Virginia Tech shootings just over a week ago, this incident was certainly a cause for alarm. In a letter to families, Nathan Hale principal Lisa Hechtman stated that “she was very proud of the student who reported the found items” and reiterated the school’s “Zero-Tolerance policy” regarding weapons on school grounds. “Some kids were upset,” said a teacher at Nathan Hale addressing the incident. “It’s sort of a symptom of the fear and violence that is frighteningly common in our American society. We need to work on building communication and decreasing the attention on violence.”

Still trying to get more information on this, will update when possible.

That's my alma mater too! Do they still tell the story there about the narc who was killed in a second floor bathroom? (Hung, IIRC.) That was back in the 70s, but I am sure the story lives on. It was certainly active in the 80s when I was there.

Officer Outlaw! I remember him.

My high school, too - and yeah, that guy's story is still around, in several versions (along with the myths of the pool on the roof & the time the seniors somehow stuck the principle's VW Bug on top of the smoke stack).

I'm kinda surprised, NH is such a goodie-two-shoes school (didn't used to be, but is now) - and the first-floor handicapped stall? Wtf?

Please do let us know if you find out anything else about this, Jonah - I know the Times et al. will report this, but not follow up on it too well.

Will do SeattleExile.

My favorite rumor (which I swear I had a teacher confirm at one point) was that a student died of strangulation in a bathroom stall (in the same set of bathrooms mentioned in my post btw). The school's line was that it was a suicide but speculation was that it was autoerotic asphyxiation. No shit.
I'm sure none of that's true and other high schools have similar stories (I've heard the pool-on-the-roof story about both Garfield and Rooselvet) but that one always stuck with me.

My alma mater also. Sheez.

I was stuffed into a bathroom garbage can by an upperclassman when I was a freshman. I bet that story haunts the halls. Did you hear about that girl? Butt first. Sad. She lived, though.

My favorite Nathan Hale urban legend was that someone spiked a history teacher's coffee with LSD one day, and he had to go to the hospital for detox because he was making scribbles on the blackboard for like an hour.

Hale is a "goodie-two-shoes school" now? Dang, in the early 80s it was sort of a party school.
