Politics $25,000,000

Posted by on April 4 at 8:43 AM

Obama raised 25 million so far this year—from 100,000 donors—just a million short of Hilary’s 26 million.

The figure was the latest evidence that Obama, a political newcomer who has served just two years in the Senate, has emerged as the most powerful new force in presidential politics this year. It also reinforced his status as a significant threat to Clinton, who’d hoped her own $26 million first quarter fundraising total would begin to squeeze her rivals out of contention.

Great, the Gore/Obama ticket is going to need that money.

2

Now if he took all the money gave it to a decrepit city school system, I would vote for him. Better than spending it on stupid TV commercials.

3

Anyone know how much Bill Richardson raised?

4

I think Richardson raised around $6M.

5

yikes. That sucks.

6

Wow, when did Will in Seattle change his nym to Sean?

Back to reality, Will/Sean, Gore is not running for President. It just ain't gonna happen. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you'll quit looking dumb in public. Just sayin.

7

I agree with Willis, I have given up on the hope of Gore running. Time to back Obama full time... I guess. I still am not super keen on another President who we have to train on the job but at least Obama has a brain and thinks.

8

At this point, I too have given up on Al. If he announced tomorrow, wouldn't he be $25 million behind? That is a prettty bad handicap...

9

Are all of you guys just content to accept whomever the press picks for you? Who the hell is Obama? why would you think he's the best choice? or Clinton?

check out Joe Biden He actually has a brain and uses it too

wtf: He sounds awful on every issue except Iraq. His solution to health care is "electronic records"? Wasn't that Bush's solution?

Obama and Clinton are much better candidates. Plus they're much cleaner.

11

from the Washington Post:

"Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.) raised about $15 million in the first quarter, double his total from four years earlier. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) raised $6 million; Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (D-Conn.) raised $4 million; and Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) raised more than $2 million."

No word on what Dennis Kucinich raised, but yesterday a bully on the playground took his lunch money.

12

Willis,

Your foresight is weak.

Al Gore will indeed run for president, he will wait until fall to announce his candidacy, and he will ride the ensuing media frenzy to victory in April's Democratic primary.

So it is written.

13

Sean, you can't win on media frenzy alone. unfortunately, you need $, and the longer Al stays out of it, the further behind the other candidates he will be...

14

Sean,

Your ability to read the political calendar is weak - 20 states (including the two biggies - CA and NY) will be holding their Dem primaries on February 5th - well before the April Primary you predict (?!?). Getting in with 3-4 months to go before the big day is not enough time to ratchet up a national campaign. Welcome to reality.

@9 - Biden is bought and paid for by MBNA. He is bad for the the middle class.

15

Uh, Dan, can you not spell Hillary correctly?
Or is there some hidden meaning there?

16

Willis,

How long do you think it would take for Al Gore to rachet up a campaign?

Given the following:
a) his experience and connections
b) his new friends in Hollywood
c) the popular belief that if he runs he will win
d) the attention he'll get from a media and populace that has grown bored of the other candidates
e) other candidates dropping out
f) the fact that America loves a comeback
g) recent advances in media and commerce (the Internets, Visa, 24-hour cable news...)
h) my incredible foresight

I say it would about take about two weeks.

17

Yes Sean, your incredible foresight that thought a Dem primary was still going to be happening in April.

You're obviously well on top of this stuff.
