An amoral corporation using the image of a dead star to promote a product that contributed to his death, I'm shocked.

I thought heroin killed Hendrix.

From the Times report: "Jimi Hendrix was drinking and taking drugs when he died from choking on his own vomit in 1970."

I'm going to launch a line of Sonny Bono skis.

I'm assuming this is the same sister that sells Jimi's songs to Buick commercials. I'm not saying the vodka thing isn't disgusting. It is. But she shouldn't be getting upset at people whoring out Jimi. She set the precedent for that.

I have a question. Could she have made more money from them if she forced them to give her a share of the profits and marketing and maybe even took charge? Or would she make more money sueing them? Just curiuos, and yes I know everything is not about money, but these days its nice to have.

Reminds me of Ford using The Doors' "Light My Fire" for their Pinto ads in the 70s. Funny that they were recalled for blowing up when getting rear ended.

No one has whored out Jimi Hendrix more than his own family.

But, that's sort of the point - for better or worse, THEY get to decide what products the late Mr. Hendrix' likeness will grace, it's not something a company can just do unilaterally.

In this day-and-age, when, through the power of computer-generated animation, dead celebrities can hawk vacuum-cleaners, beer, or anything else for that matter, it's no surprise that the Hendrix family would whore out Jimi's image. What IS surprising is that some company would be stupid enough to try to do it without getting a licensing agreement from the family before doing so.

The Hendrix Vodka? It's in aisle 2, right above the Natalie Wood Water Wings.

Comte> My point is that if the Hendrix sister never sold Jimi's music to car commercials, it is conceivable that the Hendrix Vodka idea would have never been. She whores jimi out, then is outraged (!) when someone tries to pile on?

Why not? Oh well, whatever...

First of all, technically, it should be Kurt Cobain brand shotgun shells.

Second, considering how Janie Hendrix has whored out Jimi's name and likeness over the years, I have no sympathy for her.

Finally, I'll probably buy a bottle of Hendrix Vodka just to have it (I am disappointed it isn't colored purple). I'll put the bottle next to my bottle of Freak Out Ale (commemorating the 40th anniversary of Frank Zappa's Freak Out album).

I would buy a box of KC shells. And I probably would get a bottle of JH vodka too.

If you want to get technical, what contributed to Jimi's death was wine(not vodka)and it was likely the nine pills of Vesparex - a sedative that made him lose consciousness and choke on his undigested food.

Also, isn't there a Marilyn Monroe wine?
Just drink responsibly.
