Not to generalize too much, but the lesbian separations/divorces I have been involved with (especially the ones with kids involved) are almost always the nastiest, claws out, drawn out affairs. This doesn't surprise me.

I thought the worst lesbian in the world was the woman accusing random disabled guys of rape in a plot win back her ex-lover, but then I read this.

There was a similar case in California where a lesbian tried to get herself out of child support payments by making a similar argument. Luckily, California's courts/laws are liberal enough that she was essentially told to fuck off.

Yes, well, everyone knows that motherhood is a sacred right and responsibility and that anyone would do whatever a mother is doing that appalls everyone else. Like, for example, when mothers lobby to abolish freedom of speech, or when they flip out about having halal food on the menu at their school or whatever. Any mother would dig your heart out of your chest with their fingers and eat it in front of you if it meant their precious little bundle would be spared from a moment of discomfort. And if you don't understand and appreciate that... well, that's just because you're not a mother.

It's reassuring that Wheeler essentially admits there is no basis in ethics or justice for what she is trying to achieve, she's just trying to use the law to get what she wants.

And if she wins, that would be bad, but it would hardly "set gay rights back a century." Bands of cops won't be gratituously raiding gay bars and beating up their patrons if this woman gets this adoption anulled.

Any gay person who decides to go to court to punish their ex-partner and in the process to set a legal precedent for other gay parents that the non-child bearing gay partner does not have parental rights is a completely selfish fucked up piece of shit.

Well, usually one (or both) of the parents do it through the kids (which may also be happening in this case). The "getting back at the ex" in any way possible is what's going on; innocent bystanders -- be they the children or the gay community -- are just collateral damage. (Not that they can see that: just try to get my divorced mother to admit to it, for example).

I think there is a grain of truth to the idea that lesbian divorces-with-kids are sometimes nastier than the straight ones, but the legally ambiguous situation is the reason they're so awful, not the fact that two women are involved.

One of the many, many reasons that gay marriage needs to be legal is to provide for gay divorce. Divorce is messy, but splitting up two lives where there are all the entanglements of marriage (joint finances, joint ownership of a house, children) but no legal marriage can be even messier.
