Slog - Comments on The Stardust Goes Boom http://slog.thestranger.com/2007/03/the_stardust_goes_boom And it's done totally Vegas-style: I spent a couple of nights at the Stardust while attending the Porn Awards for The Stranger in 2000, and it was a trip: super-low ceilings, odd smells, and the hotel's few guests spread out all over the vast and empty-ish grounds (the one and only reason I chose the Stardust over any other Vegas hotel was its stature as the setting for Showgirls.) Now it's gone. RIP Stardust; your name has been fulfilled. (Thanks to my beloved Towleroad for the link.)... From the early 70's to the late 90's, if you went to the bar shack by the pool to get yourself a drink on a hot afternoon, he was the guy pouring your drink.

I was surprised when I found out it closed... but so it goes in Vegas. Some places put history in a glass case. Vegas blows their history up. I find it strangely progressive and forward thinking. "The past is gone. Let's look to the future."
