On Dear old slutty Katie Couric, is anyone surprised? I mean she presented a story on the "Happy side of Global Warming".

And CBS wonders why their news ratings are tanking...

Also in cancer news: Tony Snow's is back. I didn't even realize he'd had his whole colon removed. Yikes.

Andrew, "slutty" Katie Couric? How so? Because she's a female in a high position?

I'm no big fan of Katie, but WTF is the big deal? Wasn't that the first thing everyone thought when the Edwardses made the announcement? I mean, she didn't call her a faggot or anything...

Tony Snow: So now we know that lying causes cancer.

Katie only needed to ask the question once, rather than the 4 or 5 times MSNBC showed last night. It was also a little hypocritical to suggest that Edwards should quit the race and take care of his wife while Katie continued to do the Today Show while her own husband was dieing of cancer.

elsie the cow,
last night on conan, there was a funny skit about 'hypocrite' mr. rogers style make-believe

I look forward to Gonzales getting the boot, but I don't think he had anything to do with that child sex scandal. As the US Attorney General, he doesn't review every case presented to every District Attorney.

With all the scorn heaped upon Edwards, I'm assuming that Tony Snow is resigning IMMEDIATELY, right? And Katie = hypocrite. And rtw, why do you assume Katie was called slutty because she's a female in a high position? Because Andrew is a male?

Couric was ok on the Today show, but she's not gonna last long on the nightly news because of stuff like that. She's brought too much of the Today show over to the hard news side and it shows. I miss Walter Cronkite and John Chancellor.

That being said, US news both national and local is nearly unwatchable for me. For whatever reason our TV news agencies ignore almost anything in the rest of the world except Iraq and Israel or something related to those two countries. Most of the daily newspapers are not much better. It's why most of this country is much more ignorant than many other parts of the world. Couric is just carrying on what has become the tradition turning the evening news into a new version of the Today show. Putting her on at 60 Minutes actually detracts from their hard news component. I'd rather see them bring Lara Logan on more often.

I hope more prominent news outlets would pick up on the injured soldiers story AND Erica's earlier story about women in the military. Two more nails in the Bush coffin.

Can Bush & Cheney be charged with war crimes against Americans?

him, no, I wasn't assuming, I was asking. Is there any reason for calling her a slut? Is her sex life depraved and wanton enough (and relevant to her ability to report the news) to warrant such a label?

If not, though, then yeah, I will have to assume she's being called slutty for no other reason than that she's a woman in a high position.

So I'm asking, is there any basis for calling her slutty?

I think among the kids (and maybe among the gays) "slut" has become a kind of general-purpose epithet that doesn't imply or assume anything about the target's sexual habits. Kind of like "bastard" no longer has any bearing on a person's parentage or (il)legitimacy.

As for Giuliani, is anybody surprised? His supposed lead was the result of some pretty questionable polls, so it was subject to radical change as soon as the real Republican electorate started paying attention. And with his history of support for liberal positions (notably abortion and gun control) he's poison for the "base"; Romney has the same problem. In the end, McCain is the right's only consistent true believer, even if he flip-flopped on other issues (mostly ones that he cares more about than the "base" does, and he's flipped towards them on most), and he has no clue what his own position is on things like birth control (which actually reflects his voters quite accurately). He's the one who carries the banner on the social issues that twist panties in the red states. And that may be a good thing: with his unwavering support for an unpopular war, and without the dead hand of Rove manipulating things behind the scenes, McCain may ensure a Democratic victory no matter whom the Dems pick as their candidate.

@ #14, Well I agree but I was refering to the pics of Katie chugging gallon jugs of guys' jizz. But you know, we all need hobbies.

Okay, Joe, thanks for the clarification. Kids these days... whatever happened to good wholesome insults, like retard and homo? Anyway, I'm going to start calling everyone slutty now. I don't like Katie Couric, I think she's obnoxious, but at least it's not that slut Dan Rather anymore. And then Schieffer! What a slut.

re: the injured deployed: when it's running low on cannon fodder, a despicable governement's gotta do what a despicable government's gotta do. doesn't anyone understand the pressures the bush adminstration is under!? where's the downside? they obviously don't give a shit about the repugnican party as a whole, they are never held to account by a spineless bitch of a congress, so why not just go for broke?

All 3 of the network news programs can suck it. Whatever our weird channel #36 is here (it's just some random station tucked between CW and Channel 11 that broadcasts in Chinese most of the day) airs English versions of Russian and German news, it's on when I'm getting ready for work and I'm hooked.

So Katie will be the first to scold Tony Snow that he hasn't announced his retirement yet?

#20 For the analogy to work, Katie would have to scold Tony Snow's wife if she didn't quit her job.

I work with 3 people with cancer and I went through a kidney transplant and was out of work for 6 weeks last year. It should be up to the patient whether they want to work or not (as long as they can). I think if Mrs. Edwards wanted John to quit and take care of her, he would.

EXTC @5: If you happen to have any desire to become a thoughtful and intelligent person, you would realize your comment is inane, sophomoric, and rude. Although Tony Snow is a political adversary, those that have followed his career gladly acknowledge that he is an astute and intelligent political commentator. Unless we're barbarians, we can at least admire his determination and wish him all the best in his most mortal battle.
