Davies just lip-syncs? Laaaaame.
Dan, in case you didn't see this yesterday, here's Garrison Keillor's response. I'm curious to hear your response in turn. I think it's pretty awful that he received so much hate-mail as a result of your brief-lived campaign, which was based on nothing more than misunderstanding and perhaps a weak attempt at satire.
that patience bullshit really pisses me off. yeah, my sister will practice a shit ton of patience will her husband is over there, against his will, risking his life daily.
thanks, condi.
In the Condoleeza article it states:
"A day before in Baghdad, insurgents disguised as mechanics slipped into car repair shops..."
CNN has in turn reported "recent suspicious activity" in the hiring of US school bus drivers.

Mark Krikorian just posted this at The Corner (NRO), under the title "Gay Rights Don't Stop at the Rio Grande":
Mexico City's new homosexual civil union law went into effect Friday. My point is not to debate the substance of the issue, but rather to point out that Mexicans are not a people of our imagination, living as we imagine our sainted ancestors did in the shtetls of the old country, but rather real people living through all the moral and social changes of modernity. (As another example, about one-third of babies now born in Mexico are illegitimate.) This sounds obvious, but too many supporters of mass immigration (including the president) behave as though Mexican (and other) immigrants are somehow different or better than we are, and can solve for us the cultural challenges we face in a modern society.
Ugh.
Re "whiners and ingrates": there was an interview in the Guardian today with the Iraqi man who took a sledge-hammer to Saddam's statue after the invasion, and led the crowd in pulling it down. He says that he now regrets doing so, and that life was better under Saddam. This was a man who was tortured at Abu Graib by Uday Hussein.
Apparently we have hit the point of taking everything out of context on everything anyone says about anything. Coupled with people who just do more knee jerking than thinking is really doing a fine job at making life a fucking nightmare. Thanks for everyone taking up the modus operati from Fox News. (Dan Savage and Garrison fiasco)
@8,
Hey, not everyone did. There were plenty of people, who were actually familiar with Keillor's work, who knew he wasn't trying to be serious with that article.
Gabriel-have a sense of humour! Did you catch Elaine hosting SNL? Funny woman!
I always laugh my head off if I see that episode when Jerry tells her that "War and Peace" was originally titled "War, What Is It Good For, Absolutely Nothing, Say It Again."
C'mon, War is good for a few chuckles. Lighten up.
Check out Americablog (in the slog favorite list). Two lesbians got kicked out of an IHOP in Kansas for kissing each other.
Cinnasation french toast... I'll miss you.
re: elderly drivers.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but statistics don't prove causation. Maybe the reason more elderly drivers die in intersections is because they aren't on the highways.
I hate psuedo-news and scare tactics!
The average American will not suffer when the US pulls out of Iraq. Remember that in 1962 the US lost at the Bay of Pigs, the US lost in Vietnam in 1975 and when the U.S. government looses in Iraq it will be no skin off the nose of the American people. All empires loose a war now and then. Get over it.
that's a good point, tiz. that's exactly the kind of thing the freakonimics author is always pointing out. how would you structure a better statistical model, tho...
Yet another smelly lefty protest. I didn't hear, did they finally free Leonard Peltier and convince Isreal to stop defending itself?
Great, FUCKING STOP THE DAMN PROTESTING! First you are doing it in SEATTLE!!! Go protest in a red city like Bellevue or Redmond already! We all get it! And because WE get it, WE do not have to have our bus routes all screwed up.
Talk about preaching to the chior, go preach to the congergation in Eastern Washington already!
I do not know if Mr. Peltier has been released yet. Yesterday's rally had folks who support Isreal as well as supporters of Palestine. If the government had listened to the protests before the war we would not be in this mess. The anti war movement was 100% on the money about what would happen. The Bush adminstration has been proven to be liars about what they said.
I did not notice any partucular oder at the protest. Perhaps that smell was from the 600,000 dead citizens of Iraq and the over 3000 U.S. soldiers killed in the past four years
Check out the polls there, post #15
like it or not the antiwar movement now speaks for more Americans than Bush.
Um, That isn't an anti-war movement or a movement of any kind. It's a collection of various low-lifes and pathologically anti-authoritarian children. Why is it that even after "taking back the Senate" you can't get them to do what you want? What do they know that you don't?
I think the lowest form of low life is what now sits in the White House.
@19
Actually the lowest form of life are scattered around the country: People who voted for and still support the President.
But after further consideration I think we should just admit this "Deomcratic Republic" that started in the 18th Century simply does not work. I propose we re- patriate ourselves back to England and reestablish the divine right of Kings (and Queens). All of the representative democracies must put back into power anyone alive from past monarchies and if they did not have a monarchy they need to pick someone and start one up.
There are simply to many STUPID STUPID people who have acted to STUPID to be trusted with voting.
The experiment has failed: Ken Brokway said it best "Democracy simply doen't work"
GOD SAVE QUEEN ELIZABETH II!!! Long may she reign as our absolute ruler!!!
Don't you DARE go back to England. We need you here to derail the Dems in 08 with your ineffectual dorm room Che-blowing bullshit.
Andrew @20: is that the same Queen Elizabeth with the nice rack?
ellarosa @14: I dunno. I haven't taken statistics. I just like to occasionally bitch without a solution of my own.
Unsafe...
Shouldn't that be unsafe at any age?
"...The most common reason among youngest drivers was rear-ending another car... younger drivers are impatient and distracted.
And stoned?
I hate that experts are proposing more roundabouts instead of signal intersections. One thing I've learned in this city, is that no one slows down or stops at roundabouts. They may be safer for elderly drivers, but there's no way they're safer for pedestrians or bicyclists.
