While I was growing up on our farm, we used to get shipments of about 30,000 chicks at a time. Apparently I dodged a machine-gun spray of salmonella bullets over the years, because I used to have to look after the little peepers, keep them from drowning in their drinking water. Huh. How much did my parents know and when did they know it?
