Are you fucking kidding me? You seriously just did that?

Great. Thanks. I haven't read that Civil War issue yet.

I'm pissed. Right on your front page like this?

FUCK!

The NYT did it first!

Make sure you post the ending of the last Harry Potter book the same day that's released, too.

I thought I knew you, Ari Spool!

I ... thought ... I ... knew you!

But seriously. No, seriously - look at me - I have geek hatred for you right now.

It's only been slapped all over the news today. Don't harsh on Ari.

Alquida killed him, right?

Didn't you know? This is Spoilers Week(tm) (see the recent kerfuffle on Digg re: Battlestar Galactica.)

Marvel just hates our freedom... fucking liberals.

Put up a fucking spoiler alert! Goddamn Today Show already fucking ruined this for me.

And never, ever, ever knock mainstream attention paid to comics. They're one of the few truly American art forms, and it's nice when their cultural significance is recognized.

Wow, I am sorry to see Captain America die.
Will Team America take his place?

Monkey - there was a CNN story about it but it had a warning at the top saying if you didn't want to know more don't read, so I didn't. Then Spool plasters it up hear like a soulless heathen.

Just because it was "slapped" other places doesn't mean they didn't take caution to ruin it for people.

I'm going to find some of his favorite things and e-mail him about them right before they occur.

yeah, as has been mentioned: this news has been on every gorram news network in the known universe. I think I even saw it on Al Jazeera. It's not in the main Civil War books, so you didn't have anything spoiled unless you pick up Cap's book proper.
Way to post comic news on the Stranger site though:-) I say dump the theater review section in favor of comics.

Oh, c'mon geeks, Geeks, GEEKS!

Remember "the death of Superman"?

The only question is: How long can Marvel milk this for all it's woth before they bring him back?

I mean, it's not like Cap hasn't been given up for good before, right?

And I blame Tony Stark...

What's with the issue #25 business? I mean, the character's been around for 70 years or so.

I blame Cheney.

Why? Your job is a newspaper reporter Ari, not a comic book nerd. Please post Something relevant next time. CA, vs. Iraq war. You suck.

In case you haven't heard, America is looking for heroes!

Stan Lee and his minions of intellectualized Freedom Haters are just helping the terrorists by penning the assassination of Cap at su7ch a sensitive time. If they go and demonize Islam over this and not Big Terror then I've spent my last nickel on Marvel.

It seems ridiculous to argue about, Mr. Cereal, but I am going to, just in case you didn't know Captain America never was a real person, while there are real people that will die today in Iraq, but not you, that's not a funny joke.

I think it's #25 of Volume 5. Comics generally go to the next volume number and restart issues numbers when they relaunch a character.

For those who haven't been following the Civil War stuff, a law was passed requiring superheroes to register and work for the government. Tony Stark/Iron Man led the pro-registration movement. Captain America led the underground movement that opposed Stark. Most Marvel characters are forced to choose sides.

Eventually, during a final bloody battle, Cap realizes he's lost sight of what he was fighting for and gives himself up. It's after that when he's assassinated.

It'll be interesting to see who tries to pick up the mantle. I have to admit I enjoyed the Reign of the Supermen arc that followed his death. Frank Castle as Captain America? That would be intriguing.

This story arc is written by Seattlite Ed Brubaker. Blame him.

Does anyone care? I thought the consensus was that Civil War sucked. I've been reading the more sensical remixes that are, as a nice side, also hilarious.
