Am I the only one disappointed by this news? Burner lost against a relatively weak candidate in a district swinging Democratic in a Democratic landslide election year. She has almost no relevant experience. Aren't the "netroots" supposed to be good at finding viable alternative candidates? Surely there's someone out there who's done more than "went to Harvard," "worked at Microsoft," "have a family," "dropped out of UW law school." zzzzzzzzzzz. You and hundreds of other people around here.

You're not the only one. As I said in yesterday's thread about this on HA, what in the world is really different in 2008 that would make the outcome be any different than it was in 2006? Darcy is largely unappealing, Reichert is VERY popular. You have to come up with a more formidable candidate to win this race, someone with better credentials, a stronger presence, and more to offer than just complaints about Republicans. Thoughts that the contested primary costed us the race in 2004 are dashed now that we got a non-primary with a "grassroots" candidate and we STILL lost. The reason Reichert defied the national move in 2006 was that he is still the effective Sheriff, one with no negatives, and is personally perfect as a congressman. You have to get someone who is just as appealing, and someone who can challenge him with AUTHORITY. Darcy does not have the authority, not over someone as personally "large" as Reichert, the Greeen River Catcher.

completely off topic but Joe My God should be listed in the "friends of slog" link list.

i think that the big reason that burner lost in the first place was the 'no experience' quote. two years is not a whole hell of a lot of time to get more experience, but she came pretty close in a race that wasn't supposed to be that close to begin with. i think that if she plays her cards right she could do well. she needs to get involved in some more local level issues though to get some experience.

Just wondering - Has Dan Savage ever apologized for accusing opponents of the Iraq war of being "stupid" and "irrelevant" and of "losing their moral compass"?

Re #5:

Would he need to for some reason?

Would he need to for some reason?

Well, it would show that he acquired a modicum of decency and intelligence in the intervening four and a half years.

Oh, _opponents_ of the war. Sorry, misread that.

Got a link? Dan, did you say that?

On the whole, though, I'd rather stay on topic.

Reichert is VERY popular? Really? I bet that most people barely know his record and just know that he's an older white guy incumbent who used to be sherrif and that's probably it. It's hard to bump off an incumbent who hasn't been involved in a scandal or something. I don't think the fact that he won the first time or bumped off Darcy shows that people love him. They just don't hate him enough to vote him out.

When I went to vote in '06 (Factoria area) I overheard a bunch of old folks at the polling place talking about voting for "the Sheriff" and how "the Sheriff's people" had just been there. That's when I figured Darcy was toast.

Reichert "VERY Popular?". A extremely well-known incumbent won 51.5% to 48.5%. Next you'll tell he me he has a mandate...

In what is now a possible swing district you better give voters a reason to swing, and it is not Darcy.

She lost. And it just so silly and lame to say - "well, harump, harump - she did better than expected."

Need to win, and Silver Haired Straightarrow Dave is an icon and is a big name in the county, people have voted for him many time.

No more money for Darcy. Get off the stage. Ross Hunter has this big Bellevue following. He sounds like a winner.

I think that Dan did take some of that back. At a forum called "What it means to be a Progressive" he did say his original support of the war was wrong but he did not appologize for calling anyone names. But I am wondering if he did call people names(?). Anyway that particular town hall simply turned into a bitch about Bush session and never dealt with What it means to be a liberal and a clearer understanding of how liberals need to take back leadership. Trust me, we all get the Bush is an idiot. But we need to move beyond that and take it to a new level of new ideas that challenge and inspire.

Any idiot can bitch about an idiot, leadership moves on and becomes truly progressive. And that is also my response to Dacy

This is good new for Reichert...

over the next few years will Darcy's be finishing Law School?

Will her board membership on her local Community Association be the springboard for this campaign?

Maybe she will al but stop video late rental fees by signle handedly getting her entire neighborhood to join netflix!

Darcy is under qualified. Her campign, when dead democrats were elected to office was a joke.
