Comments on Rick Santorum Just Won't Shut Up and Go Away

Actually from what I've heard about D'Souza's book (I haven't actually read it) I think D'Souza himself attempts to make both contradictory arguments.

So I think the answer is that you're just evil enough to do both.

Dan isn't it ironic that this post is followied by a story about that Corrie twit. A radical leftist who sacificed her life for radical islam. Why is it that at all these anti-war protests against America and capitalism all attract a fair number of these intifada cunts. Ever look at the comments on the DU? Why don't you just admit that many people on the left (not everyone)who hate this country to the extent that they will bend over for anyone perceived as an enemy of Bush.

To be absolutely, totally, and unwillingly fair: the right-wing blogosphere and press has not been all that receptive to D'Souza's book. NRO in particular took it apart. Now, whether or not you view this as mere intellectual cover for a message sure to inspire passions among the far right-wing base is another story, but D'Souza seemed unprepared for the discommendation he's receiving from the journalists and pundits on the right.

He should be hounded to the ends of the earth. I certainly hope he isn't getting his kids' home schooling money from PA anymore.

Rhombus: Yes, but. Of course there will always be people who buy into a "America is evil to the core, and we deserve to lose/be killed!" mentality, but so what? It doesn't make up the bulk of the anti-war movement or liberalism/progressivism as a whole, nor even a large amount of it. Are they many, many times more likely to be on TV? Sure, but that doesn't indicate their representation, just their media-savviness.
The Christian right claims that they don't hate gay people, and the conservative base claims not to hate immigrants. If I go right now and find hundreds of anti-gay/racist comments, quotes, and policy "suggestions" from right-wing commentators and columnists, will that prove that all of conservatism and Christianity is a sham, that they all hate anyone who's not straight and white? Of course not; it's the sad (il)logical extreme for any position spectrum.

Surely whether it actually makes sense is completely beside the point? The point is to get people to pay to watch the product and (hopefully) to freak out about what they have seen, and by doing so to get other people to see it so that they can "respond intelligently" to the growing ruckus. To achieve these aims "making sense" is actually counter-productive.

Good point and I don't know. You'd have to ask a Chistian or a right-winger. I am neither.

Moral of the story: Religious belief of any sort or any degree in the political/ civic world leads to oppression and religious facism. It always has and always will.

Remember, Rick now works for some political action/lobbying group called something like "America's Enemies." And who are bigger enemies of America than radical islamists or lefties (at least according to those jokers).

Dan I am aware you are being sarcastic when referring to "Islamic cultural values" but I feel compelled to clear up a few things lest any of the bigots lurking around here become misguided: 1. Stoning is not mentioned anywhere in Qur'an. 2. Homophobia is a relatively new thing to Islamic societies as a result of colonization. You can look at centuries of Arabic, Persian and Pashto literature and art for proof. 3. According to the Qur'an education is a requirement for both boys and girls.

Obviously Usama Bin Laden does not necessarily hold these views but he is not representative of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims or "Islamic cultural values" in any way.
