Why don't you run Josh?

Dan...are running? What a way to announce it.

I've obtained Cathy Allen's secret list of council prospects:

  • Times Op-Ed columnist Joni Balter
  • KING-5's Robert Mak
  • One-eyed artiste Dale Chihuly
  • Charity auctioneer Dick Friel
  • Conspiracy theorist Joel Connelly
  • Romanian refugee Jim Compton

    Maybe it's Enrique Cerna...

    GOOD GOD NOT Robert Mak!!???!!!

    Posted by Andrew | March 29, 2007 1:36 PM

I Vote for Cynthia Lauren Tewes, aka Julie from Love Boat, aka the Cheese Queen of Capitol Hill...

Who will represent the surface option on the council?

Josh, ECB, and Cary Moon should all run.

    Posted by Sherwin | March 29, 2007 1:48 PM

Can we please, please get John McKay to run?

    Posted by Joseph | March 29, 2007 1:56 PM

Regardless who runs or Cathy Allen annoints with her wand, it will likely be only more of the same, and that is a real disappointment when considering the intellect and capabilities wondering the streets of this town.

I will say, the job must be absolutely brain numbing. About 85% of it is dealing with land use issues.

Isn't Cathy Allen prepping to foist Tony Ventrella on WA-08 next year? He seems like the archetypal Cathy Allen candidate.

Trey-- I like it... Dale Chihuly would really bring some spice to the Council ;)

I saw Cathy Allen having a coffee with a council staffer.

    Posted by SeMe | March 29, 2007 3:14 PM

    @ 7 & 12

Don't forget ECB's buddy Stephanie Pure, for whom ECB has overtly shilled in the past.

Posted by Luigi Giovanni | March 29, 2007 3:23 PM

Stephanie is a great candidate, regardless who she is friends with, and would make a fine council woman/person, but she wasnt having coffee with Cathy Allen. =)

Besides, Cathy Allen old school approach to campaigns is going to be dead soon.

    Posted by SeMe | March 29, 2007 3:26 PM

I really would love for Robert Mak to be on the city council.

Posted by Ari Spool | March 29, 2007 3:50 PM

    1. At any given time, Cathy Allen has a half dozen Council staffers that either worked for her previously or managed campaigns that she was involved with. So, seeing her with a staffer means pretty much nothing.

    2. Two names in the Cathy Allen list: Jesse Israel, formerly with the UW's Women & Democracy Leadership Institute. Mike James, former KIRO TV Anchor.

Stephanie Pure assures one and all that she isn't running for City Council, in language more definitive than Al Gore's WRT the presidency.

And I'd bet the house that she and Cathy Allen aren't on the same page. Probably not in the same book.

    I'm holding out for Ichiro.

    He's my man!

Posted by Will in Seattle | March 29, 2007 4:48 PM

Oh, and Stephanie didn't say word one about running when she and I rode in on the bus on Tuesday, so I wouldn't hold my breath - even if she'd be an excellent candidate.

Yes, we're neighbors. But usually I don't have jury duty (hence the bus).

We did have an interesting conversation about transportation, though.

@16 - Jessie Israel would be fantastic on the Council. I didn't know she was considering it. She's been doing great work at the KC Dept. of Parks.

I fail to understand why people think that talking heads on TV or newsprint would make good elected officials. Just because a Jim Compton could ask good questions and look thoughtful didn't make him a good councilmember. In my experience, media members hold themselves professionally distant from policy making. I would prefer city councilmembers with active involvment in the community.

Apparently, someone has already filed against Manning. Carrie Shriver?

Honestly, after you give it some reasonable consideration, there isn't really a helleva lot of difference between the current Seattle city council and the Seattle school

    Bill Sherman should run!
