And there's no bar in Seattle that comes within a hundred miles of the kind of thing I mean. Bars in Seattle are solely for young people to get as fucked up as possible as rapidly as possible in, and then wander around punching each other and having their dog come over and lick you or shit on your shoe, with crappy antique rock music playing too loudly and horrible smells coming from every corner.

Mind you, as far as churches go I'm talking out of my ass. I haven't actually been in a church, except for tourism, weddings and funerals, in twenty years, and haven't attended a proper service in more than thirty.

There are many bars/pubs that are pleasant and fun and contain none of the crowd of which you speak. (Not naming names for fear of who might think of invading my favorite haunts.)

Stick to nice, low-profile neighborhood places on a weeknight and you'll be fine. Most of the crowd you speak of only goes out on Friday and Saturday nights.

That's the nice thing about a city; it's big enough for all of us.
