While I think it's a pretty freaky thing to want I don't see how voluntary castration isn't any different from body piercing.

Mendez has a Bronze Star from his military service days? Don't let Pace hear that--his next attack will claim that the "immoral" gays in the military will turn around and castrate you later!

Um, how about you can take a body piercing out later, but you can't as such sew 'them' back on.

"I don't see how voluntary castration isn't any different from body piercing."

Well, unless it goes wrong, piercing doesn't permanently affect bodily function in any notable way.

Dan,

Your honest opinion, s'il vous plait.

Do you think these people are of right mind?

sorry -- no way they should have been charged with anything.

though i am wondering why the police were able to search the home and find the stray teste. . .

people choose to do what can't be undone with their bodies all the time. breast reduction, removal, expansion, you can only have a *another surgery, it can't be "undone".

i do think there might be a serious social maladaption here and possibly some mental illness, but i don't see criminal behavior that requires state intervention. . .

I agree with chuckles. There is no criminal behavior here, just a whole lot of crazy.

Yeah, I know, I understand the difference but I'm just saying if someone wants to cut their own balls off why should anyone else care. If it wasn't a fetish it wouldn't be an issue. Wait, is this a fetish? I'm guessing so. Anyway, how about another example. If I decide tomorrow that I don't want my right hand and have it chopped off is that a crime? Is the crime that it's a surgical procedure that was done by someone not licensed to practice medicine?

Well, it would most certainly be illegal to perform such a procedure in a case where the person involved is not of sufficiently sound mind to make an informed decision about it. The question is, can the sort of person who is actively seeking amputation in the name of sexual satisfaction, and nothing else, ever be considered to be of sound mind?

tsm says: The question is, can the sort of person who is actively seeking amputation in the name of sexual satisfaction, and nothing else, ever be considered to be of sound mind?

well, can the sort of person who will only be happy with her tits inflated to the size of basketballs be of sound mind? can a person who believes that happiness requires the dramatic restructuring of their face be of sound mind?

personally, i'd say no (unequivocally) and so would most reputable shrinks. but culturally, socially, and legally, we've decided that grownups get to do these things.

the key difference in this case is that while we are a culture accustomed to molding our bodies for "happiness", the extreme edge of serious physical modification (surgery) is supposed to be the province of women. these were not only men altering their sexual bodies, but doing so in a gay sexual context.

i think that boob jobs and castrations without malice are roughly equivalent in terms of personal crazy. socially speaking, only one of them is maladaptive. legally, i don't think they can be differentiated.

**for those of you think that castration is much too serious a surgery to be undertaken outside a hospital, that is not the case at all. it's quite simple really and can done in seconds without much trouble at all -- the wound is easy to treat, etc etc. wouldn't recommend it though.

Does anyone have a good recipe for cooked scrotum and testicles?

@13 here you go:
(though not a recipe, more of pairing suggestions with a starch and veg + sauce)

Braised Scrotum And Testicles
With Sauteed Rapini (aka Broccoli Rabe)
Grilled herb Polenta
In a Port Wine Reduction

wine pairing: a Bordeaux first growth such as Château Latour.

hope this helps

This is my local paper. I'm somewhat unsurprised.

I just skimmed through the comments, and the number of people equating this behavior with homosexuality is sickening.

oh yeah, One more thing when braising Scrotum and Testicles, remember slow and low, much like Osso Bucco, cook a batch of four scrotums / eight testicles @ 190 degrees for 3hrs 15min, this will prevent the scrotums from being too rubbery, they will also keep under refridgeration for two days, and can be re-heated later.

I think if someone was in her garage giving cosmetic mastectomies then you bet your ass she'd be arrested.

Nominated as the best short joke of the year:

A three year old was examining his testicles while he was taking a bath.

"Mom," he asked, "Are these my brains?"

Mother replied: "Not yet."
