people choose to do what can't be undone with their bodies all the time. breast reduction, removal, expansion, you can only have a *another surgery, it can't be "undone".

i do think there might be a serious social maladaption here and possibly some mental illness, but i don't see criminal behavior that requires state intervention. . .

Well, it would most certainly be illegal to perform such a procedure in a case where the person involved is not of sufficiently sound mind to make an informed decision about it. The question is, can the sort of person who is actively seeking amputation in the name of sexual satisfaction, and nothing else, ever be considered to be of sound mind?

well, can the sort of person who will only be happy with her tits inflated to the size of basketballs be of sound mind? can a person who believes that happiness requires the dramatic restructuring of their face be of sound mind?

personally, i'd say no (unequivocally) and so would most reputable shrinks. but culturally, socially, and legally, we've decided that grownups get to do these things.

the key difference in this case is that while we are a culture accustomed to molding our bodies for "happiness", the extreme edge of serious physical modification (surgery) is supposed to be the province of women. these were not only men altering their sexual bodies, but doing so in a gay sexual context.

i think that boob jobs and castrations without malice are roughly equivalent in terms of personal crazy. socially speaking, only one of them is maladaptive. legally, i don't think they can be differentiated.

**for those of you think that castration is much too serious a surgery to be undertaken outside a hospital, that is not the case at all. it's quite simple really and can done in seconds without much trouble at all -- the wound is easy to treat, etc etc. wouldn't recommend it though.
