I've seen him live twice and I've seen that special on Comedy Central about 50 times, but that hot pockets bit has yet to cease making me laugh like a total idiot.

Sorry, no one does Hot Pockets like Patton Oswalt does Hot Pockets.

Hey I watched that last night too and laughed and laughed and laughed. He is awefully cute for a chubby pale guy. Amazing what a sense of humor can do for one's attractiveness.

damn, that was funny? I should have known when I read Michael Ian Black (he WAS good on the State, however). I won't bother looking up Eugene Mirman, thx.

Um, Ben, don't hate on Eugene before you've heard his audiotaped conversations with a telemarketer trying to sell him anti-gay long distance. Fuckin hilarious.

I have Jim's albums. He is one of the funniest comics out there today.

...of course, if The Stranger had been paying ANY attention to stand-up comedy before September of 2006 (...and continued thanks to the right honorable David Schmader for getting THAT ball rolling), you'd have known about how funny Jim Gaffigan was FIVE YEARS EARLIER.

Next up for championing by The Stranger: There's this tv show in the UK that's pretty funny called "The Office."

PS--Nevertheless, however late you may be...welcome to the party, Megan...there might still be a beer left in the fridge.

PPS--To Ben at #4. If you don't think Jim Gaffigan, Michael Ian Black or Eugene Mirman are funny...you should seek medical help, immediately. There's something wrong with your brain.

Hey Peter Greyy!
Are you getting enough oxygen all the way up there on your high horse?
Just kidding. KIND OF.
Ragefully,
Lindy

PS Remember when Gaffigan was on SVU? AND Criminal intent?

I remember when Jim Gaffigan had a short-lived CBS sitcom called Welcome To New York where he played a weatherman from the mid-west who had to deal with the crazy city folk. It wasn't that bad.

I laugh a lot. Like 50 times a day. But I don't think this guy is funny.

This guy is funny? For real? This hot pocket routine is the worst. Megan, this is a sad crush you have.

All you had to do was ask, Lindy, and I'd gladly give you a ride on my high horse. The view is excellent up here--almost as good as from the Viaduct!

It's a comedy rule (and yes, rules are made to be broken) that humor derives from an element of truth--so, my teasing the a writer for the "hipper-than-hip" Stranger for just now discovering a comedian who has been packing clubs and theaters regularly here in Seattle for years, has appeared on several tv series (including "Welcome to New York," "Ed", "Sex & the City", "That 70's Show" and this season's "My Boys"), regularly appears on The Conan O'Brien show and in a popular series of Sierra Mist commercials isn't undeserved.

The Stranger has consistently ignored (or derided) stand-up comedy for years--up until a recent run of articles and Slog blurbs by you, Lindy, and Brendan that have been more positive. (Sending Cienna to cover the Seattle International Comedy Competition as an "Our Worst Enemy" article was more in keeping with The Stranger's anti-stand-up approach...but it was nice that Cienna found a few positives to champion.)

If a writer for The Stranger would just now discover Modest Mouse with a promo copy of their new album and wrote about it--it would be worthy of similar teasing.

That's right. As of today Jim Gaffigan=Modest Mouse.

Float on, Jim...float on.

PS--Yes, I remember Jim on SVU and on CI. And, thanks to USA & Bravo, I can catch those episodes seemingly every other night. (And I DO...)

For the record, I didn't just discover Jim Gaffigan last night. I've known about Jim Gaffigan for a couple years, actually. But until last night, I had never seen his whole stand-up special. I always just got bits and pieces of him in TV shows and in Super Troopers and soda commercials. It's my CRUSH that's new, not Jim Gaffigan.

And it's not a sad crush. It's a happy one.

That's the best part of Super Troopers! Jesus people, she didn't say she discovered the guy.

f the audience at the show is clapping more than they are laughing, it's not funny.

Gaffigan's funny, but that Hot Pockets bit is not the best example. He beats the thing to death. (If he had sung the jingle one more time, I was throwing my computer out this seventh-floor window.)

That goofy alternate voice of his was annoying as hell. I was going to watch it and my girlfriend was like WTF is wrong with that guy. On and on in that wispering voice and count another couple who turned him off. The South Park show before that already got enough laughs out of us so when he came on we sayed blah, and we switched to Leno and got a good nights sleep.
