Surge upon surge. Bush is totally trying to move in with Maliki. Next he'll leave his toothbrush there, then store all of his gym clothes there because "it's just easier."

It is worth noting that the additional troops and equipment for the surge are only partially deployed in Iraq. So technically speaking, to say that it isn’t working premature. The “I-TOLD-YOU-SOs” will be more accurate, and effective, this fall.

Re: “Just saying: Transit ridership spikes to highest level in decades.”

Light rail construction is well under way. By 2009 we'll have service to SeaTac - just like the voters were promised. The taxes have not increased. Projects for the most part are coming in on time, and under budget. The problems of the old days are a distant memory, and the new administration is nationally recognized for excellence. The elected leaders on the board are charting a prudent and effective course. We need real mass transit in this region. We can build on the successes with ST2!

Halliburton is welcome to headquarters anyplace on earth that they wish.

But I would like to propose a simple law: Defense related contracts can only be awarded to companies that have their headquarters located in the United States.

(Just make sure to make it retroactive, then pass it and enact it after they're gone)

Good point, Catalina.

What about the local big news - "UW mens basketball 'snubbed' by NIT". You know, the tourney nobody cares about unless your team is in it. The battle for the title of "66th best team in the nation". What a disappointing season this was.

Screw where their headquarters are, we should stop doing business with companies who keep their money in offshore accounts so they don't have to pay taxes.

How come I don't find a SLOG morning news item about the county council's plan to adopt a goofy Martin Luther King logo?

Lowball estimates say it will cost taxpayers $600k. That doesn't count future time and court costs after the MLK family estate sues for copyright infringement and licensing fees.

(In 1999, MLK family members sued CBS-TV for copyright infringement after it aired its own filmed-live archival news footage of King's "I Have a Dream" speech.)

Susan Paynter over at the PI has a wonderfully eloquent article on the domestic partnership bill headed for the House and probable passage:
