you've got to watch it in all it's glory here: http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/img/stereoimages/movies/transit_label_best.mov
And people wonder why we're space geeks...
No matter where I stand in my office, the sun is staring straight at me!
I just learned that the sun rotates.
NASA and their website are awesome. It won't be long before we Earthlings are proven to be mere bacteria in God's intestines.
So, STEREO is TWO spacecraft, hence the STEREO-B shots. Its mission is all about the sun. Quick cool page is here, with Quicktime movies showing how the two spacecraft work in consort to gain their 3-D data. http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/orbit.shtml
yay space! thanks for the links folks. you can actually see the solar flares flaring all magnetic on the big version... fantastic. I could watch hours of that.
Technically, a lunar transit across the sun is a _solar_ eclipse.
