Slog - Comments on Local This American Life Airs Tonight

This American Life has been on a live tour for the last couple of weeks, including a stop in Seattle on March 7. The show airing tonight is from the tour. It includes Sarah Vowell, David Rakoff, and our own Dan Savage (with a special guest). I went to the live taping, it was entertaining and fun--with great music by Mates of State. The theme is What I Learned from TV, a topic close to my heart. I also learned that Ira Glass has a special place in his heart for The O.C. This American Life airs tonight at 7:00...

Is this the episode where Dan Savage reassures us about his son's heterosexuality and explains how CERTAIN he is that his adopted son is straight because the son was "born to throw a football" (the same Dan Savage who lamented Garrison Keillor's use of "stereotypes")?

I was in the audience at the Paramount on March 7, so I assume this is the same one...

Comment by Joe

Given that there was a tour, with presumably the same content in each city, what are the odds that any of the segments that ended up in the broadcast are actually from the Seattle stop? I suppose maybe they'd be tempted to use the Seattle version of Savage's bit, just to get maximum crowd delirium or whatever, but if you're editing together a show you're going to use the best takes -- unless there's some Public Radio mandate to throw a bone to every city, or something.

Dan's piece was similar in Mpls to the one at the Paramount, according to a friend in the Twin Cities. However the line up was different. Example: They got Sarah Vowell. We didn't. We got David Radkoff. They didn't. Curious to hear how they put the shows together.
