Hmmm, we have IHOPs in Seattle right? Hmmm, you know we could have a protest in front of the one on Cap Hill or the U- District.

Wait, that would be a focused protest on something really specific. Nevermind, forgot that I was in Seattle. But now, where will I get my post bar-hopping pancakes at??? The breaders have taken over Charlies and The Broadway Grill????

I'm surprised to hear of normally respectful lesbians act like that anyway. Usually it's only gay men who treat public spaces like bathhouses.

The manager did them a favor if he threw them out... IHOP sucks.

For more laugh points, the newspaper's website comments section is blocking out the word lesbian and replacing it with ####. Even the headline is blocked out.

I'm straight but after reading the comments section in the KC Star, there is no way in hell I would move to Kansas. I guess that's why I "progressive" (or what I like to call "sane") friends who have managed to escape Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa.

Mike,

I think the underground railroad starts in Hannibal. I hear parts of Illinois are very gay friendly.

As a lesbian who spends a lot of time on Capitol Hill it's always absurd to me when I find myself in a situation with my girlfriend being totally "normal" and then all of a sudden realizing that we're on display to curious and/or judgmental eyes.

It doesn't happen very often, but when it does happen it shakes me a little bit. I typically become instantly defiant and want to push their limits, but I'm getting too old to behave like a freshly out-and-proud teenager I guess.

Jim Crow is alive and well in Kansas City.

I just emailed IHOP to tell them that I won't be going to their "restaurant" anymore. I've only been there about 3 times, but whatever.

I think it's funny when people get all worked up about "family values" when they have a menu of stuff that is essentially crap. I'm no big health nut, but I know enough to know that the IHOP menu is nothing but empty calories augmented by high fructose corn syrup.

And another thing: the prudes that complain about a few lesbians probably go home and set their kids in front of the most violent and vulgar TV because they don't want to deal with them.

And (wild stereotyping here, but I don't care) I have a sneaking suspicion that most of these parents are the type that smoke around their kids, and where the mother's wouldn't breast feed because they think it's creepy.

Lastly, who's to say what's dykey? When I was a kid and went to big family reunions or the more "ethnic" wedding receptions, women would dance with each other. Is that dykey? Women would kiss. Is that dykey?

I suppose the difference is in the hairdos ;-)

IHOP has great classic breakfast stuff - and buckwheat pancakes are empty calories??? -- kiddo get a brain

I work in a factory and believe me, these are not empty calories. All you stuffy fat assed office workers need more exercise to get rid of calories, from any source, quit blaming food for your lazy flabby and sloppy bodies

do some real work, athletic stuff

and use the brain - burns calories

It seems expectable that this incident happened in Missouri. The two times I've driven across Missouri and stopped to visit friends there, it usually struck me as surprisingly conservative, except in places like St. Louis where downtown felt uncomfortably unsafe. I was surprised they were able to elect a Democratic senator last year. Kansas City has better radio stations than I expected though.

IHOP should do the same for opposite sex couples who publicly display affection in their "family" restaurant.

It's so damn irritating that straight people kissing in public isn't looked at twice, but when gay people do it they are "disgusting" or "flaunting their gayness" or it's "inappropriate."

Grrr!
