Gay On Sight

posted by on March 21 at 12:47 PM

Meanwhile in Poland

Poland would sack all gay teachers if a draft plan banning debate on homosexuality in schools and universities is accepted, Brussels reports said Wednesday.

If teachers violated the rules, they would face punishment of being sacked, fined or even jailed, the EUobserver said. Teachers who could be identified as gay on sight could lose their jobs without having violated any rules, the report said…. Polish Education Minister Roman Giertych, whose League of Polish Families party worked out a draft plan, suggested last week there was nothing wrong with the bill that is aimed at prohibiting the promotion of homosexuality in schools.

Can we start taking the right—at home and abroad—at its word? Their position on homosexuality is clear: The existence of homosexuality is tantamount to the promotion of homosexuality. They say they oppose the promotion of homosexuality, as if promoting it caused it. (Who was promoting homosexuality to all those gay rams anyway?) But what they oppose, what they’re actually against, is the fact of our being, our very existence.

The anti-gay jihad being waged by religious conservatives is an exterminationist movement. The ex-gay idiocy isn’t about helping gay people that are unhappy in our lifestyle, but about convincing straight people that we the gay people don’t necessarily have to exist. It’s a short leap from “don’t have to exist” to “should not exist.” The haters aren’t going to stop with firing “gay on sight” teachers today—or teachers that allow student newspapers to publish editorials in support of tolerance of homosexuals, which is happening in Indiana.

Speaking of ex-gays…

The best way to expose the ex-gay for the fraud that it is? Point a camera at them and let ‘em talk.

Something tells me the EU is going to have something to say about that. Poland can choose: gays, or the Third World.

So Dan, after what Hillary and Obama said last week does that mean you will not support either one of them if they get the nomination?

it will be interesting to see the criteria for being "gay on site". feather boas, matching shoes and belts, vinyl pants and leather vests, combat boots and cropped hair on girls. Virtually all of the gay people i know look no different than the straight people i know...

Poland's new conservative leadership is insane. The benefit of the EU is that they will surely slap huge sanctions on Poland if they go through with this. A similar thing is happening with abortion - the EU will punish Poland for not providing abortions to women even in medical emergencies.

Oh man, have you ever met on of those "ex-gays" in person? My grandfather is a church counselor in an evangelical congregation in Everett, and his greatest counseling "success" was convincing this poor guy that he was secretly straight, but just needed to embrace "what God intended." I met the guy a couple times, and all I could think was, "what a masochist" - trying so hard to deny himself.

I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing similar anti-gay activities here in the US, especially around the 2008 election, ex. banning adoption, teachers, domestic partnerships, medical benefits, etc.

The far right will continue to get crazier and crazier until they lose elections. The ex-gay movement has never been about helping gay people - it's about telling other straight people that somehow sexuality is multiple choice. Extermination is their ultimate goal; it's the Evangelical Christians' Final Solution.

definitely: thank god for the EU. This is not going to fly at all - the EU actually pushed a national requirement for Anti-discrimination laws back in 1999. This law isn't going anywhere.

I think its funny in a scary kind of way. Poland spends millions of dollars on American teachers every year so it can learn English and "take its place" in the EU, when most of the EU isn't this homophobic, and WILL cause problems for Poland in the long run.

As has already been said repeatedly, this is all rhetoric.

Poland has suffered huge disappointments after the fall of communism and paired with a Catholic backlash that has resulted in the current nationalistic government run by the facistoid twins.

They ran for office on, for one thing, a demand for the return of the death penalty. Something which is a complete no-go for EU members. Hell, even Turkey has completely abandoned it (including lastly in martial law) in the hope to qualify for membership (and to digress, I find the current xenophobia of France and Poland in that respect appalling - it's despicable how Turkey is made to jump through hoops - that's really not the way to reduce Islamic extremism).

That said, the *rhetoric* is disgusting on its own and betrays an unpleasant ideology. But these measures cannot be put into effect, at least.

Any one that has been awake the last few years knows that our "being" is good enough for the RR to want to wipe us out. What is NOT being discussed, what is NOT being planned is what WE as gay folk are gunna do about it. Dont' give me crap about voting for candidate A or candidate B, we vote for them, they shit on us. All you "activits" who like to type endlessly and talk endlessly now need to ACT. Any bright ideas for what to do to fight back instead of whinning and typing on blogs?
