Dogs on Film

posted by on March 15 at 19:25 PM

In case you’re not sure what a kookoo crazy-ass dog show looks like, don’t worry. I took pictures. And in case you were wondering, I did not make any of this up.

This is what a dog show looks like from the sky:

This is a dog being cute:

This is a lady dancing with her nicest, most nonjudgmental and loving best pal:

And this, O haters and naysayers, is the crazy shit hanging above that Basenji-Rape-Lady’s table:

I can’t wait for the next one. Who’s going with me?

It doesn't seem right to have a dog show on the floor like that. Those walkways aren't cutting it. The whole place needs to be laid out in astroturf.

Where there a lot of white people there?

Since it's indoors, they have these weird little sawdust pens where the dogs are supposed to perform their business. But I spied several taking sneaky pees and dumps on the floor.

And I don't remember any non-whites (except for the one in the painting).

Personally I prefer Cats On Film.
Their unpredictability is endearing

Mike in MO (from the other day: "These people are dispicable as well as crazy. It makes me F-ING CRAZY when people glorify "breeds." Millions of abandoned dogs & cats are killed because people want "breeds". It is vanity, pure & simple."

There may be some people that "glorify" breeds, but it is because they love them and feel a connection with that particular type of animal. The reason that millions of abandoned dogs and cats are killed is not because of breeders and those that purchase pets from them. Exactly the opposite- it's owners who don't take responsibility for their animals and let them procreate out of control that cause this problem.
A good breeder produces a limited amount of litters in a controlled manner to try and avoid the problem of too many unwanted pets.
I love my purebred puppy. We chose him because of his breed's temperment and how he would fit in with our lifestyle, not vanity.
While it is important to adopt or rescue homeless pets as well, which we'll probably do for our next pet, I will not be held responsible for other people's lack of responsibility. Otherwise, it's like saying that since I'm gay that I have to adopt and not go through a surrogate mother or something to have the child I want the way I want.

Sorry for the long post and responding in a different thread!

BTW- does anyone know the results of the show this past weekend? The Kennel Club hasn't updated their website and I haven't seen anything in the papers...

there are few things less "pure" than a purebred dog. if genetically engineering a whole species because you like the way their ears look isn't vanity, i don't know what is.

OK, so "purebred" may be a misnomer, but to say dogs are bred for vanity alone is incredibly dismissive and naive.
A lot of dogs were bred for specific purposes other than looks. While those purposes may have changed through the years, there are still reasons for maintaining a particular breed. I own a Rhodesian Ridgeback, which were originally bred to withstand the African sun while hunting lions and for their loyalty. Obviously, we're not going on safari anytime soon, but they have other traits which made them appealing for my partner and I. For example, they don't shed very much so he doesn't bother the allergies, they're typically very easy-going but they'll get up and go with you when you're ready to be active, they're usually very close with their people, and yes, he is aesthetically pleasing to us too.
Of course I think my dog is good-looking and better than anyone else's, but what parent doesn't think that? I realize some dog-people may take that to the extreme and some people may only have superficial reasons for wanting a certain breed, but you can't classify everyone in those categories.

"Basenji-Rape-Lady’s"

Am I missing something? Why 'rape'?
