"white male Jew from the Upper West Side"

It's stupid to include "white" in the description?
People wouldn't imagine someone from African, Asian, Mexican etc. descent if they wrote 'male Jew...'

Ah, the dumbing down of American readers. Sweet, isn't it.

There is actually a large population of Ethiopian Jews. Besides, the fact that people feel the need to signify when someone is black but white goes unsaid is an inherently racist part of popular language.

True, but there probably aren't many Ethiopian Jews from the Upper West Side.

I think it was more about "Joe Jones from Flatbush".

True, keshmeshi, in Toledo or Dallas it's more likely to consider the 'male Jew' to be either white or Ethiopian.

The Stranger seems to have an obsession with the New Times/Weekly lately on Slog. Why is that?

Can anyone explain to me what is so offensive about "Joe Jones from Flatbush" or "white male Jew from the Upper West Side"?

Snarky, yes. But worthy of being fired?

Hell, it's more offensive when this time of year people start asking me for tax advice.

Wow. There's still a Village Voice? I had no idea, and I live in Manhattan.
