Hooray! I am the 324,540,230 richest person in the world! (The higher the number the better, right?)

Yay I'm rich!

That just makes it that much more depressing, really.

Yeah! I’m the 21,250,732 richest person in the world! Obviously the State should confiscate more of my obscene wealth than it already does!

Piss off, YGBKM. The state hardly confiscates an onerous amount of your wealth. American taxes are quite reasonable overall, and seeing as how the stability of that state makes that high wage possible in the first place, you've got very, very little to complain about. There is an extreme positive correlation between "welfare capitalism" and wealth. You should count your lucky stars that you don't live in Nigeria and have to step over dead bodies on your way to your oil pit job.

Right Fnarf,

Redistribution of wealth by a Socialist Welfare State is good.

Individual control of wealth (and private property for that matter) is bad.

I’m in complete agreement.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need!

Or - you could just move to Canada and automatically be doing better.

Guess you guys missed the CNN money article about CEO executive compensation today, huh?

I'm only the 53rd millionth richest, but that's cause you don't count my house (mostly paid off) or my stock holdings or my retirement savings (which are apparently median for people who are 60, and I've got a long way to go till then).

Still, consider Canada. Trust me. I grew up with the rich kids and went to Capilano College and so on with them - we used to have fun baiting Liberal party whips ...

YGTBKM has some arguments, and he's going to use them, whether they have anything to do with the subject at hand or not, and whether or not any of the positions he's arguing against have actually been made.

Let me try: I don't care what you say, YGTBKM, slavery is still wrong!

The state doesn't confiscate anyone's wealth, the people do. Taxation without representation, dumping tea in the harbor, all that, remember?

It isn't the evil gubmint -- it's your EVIL NEIGHBORS.

The solution is the same: move to Russia where income tax is low, freedom reigns and life is beautiful all the time for everybody.

Hey, I'm in violent agreement with all of you.

Redistribution of wealth by a Socialist Welfare State is good.

Individual control of wealth (and private property for that matter) is bad.

I’m in complete agreement.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need!

I hate when hippies insult my intelligence with bullshit like this without taking into account currency strength and market conditions.

An African's 12 shillings a year, along with the bartering power of any easily produced goods and services, might have a hell of a lot more value in his village than my $24K a year has in the United States', especially in a city full of rich assholes like Seattle.

Attention passionate intellectuals:

If you don't automatically call "bullshit" on the silly premise that income equals wealth, you have no business debating economics. (Or possessing a credit card, for that matter.)

I just entered Warren Buffet in - he only gets $100,000 salary - and even though he's in the top 10 richest, he shows up as only 39,615,049th.

Because you only count salary.

I think the CEO of Amazon is pretty bad off - he only gets paid $1 a year.

But they're both multi-billionaires ...

"Redistribution of wealth by a Socialist Welfare State is good."

But, not as good as redistribution of wealth by a Capitalist Welfare State, eh? 'Cause that's sooooo much better.

Hippies - man, that is soooo late 20th Century...
