Seeing a Grace Jones performance remains one of my favorite experiences ever. I watched the second half of her show with my hand down the front of a stranger's pants, after she repeatedly encouraged the (mostly gay) audience to slap her on the ass during "Feel Up." Thanks for the inspiration, Grace.

I wish she'd tour again, make some new music, anything. At least put her on The Surreal Life!

Can someone please revoke Charles' license to post pictures in the non-extended part of a Slog entry? In the past couple of weeks, we've had Anna Nicole's floating monstrous boobs, Oriental pussy, and now Grace Jones Haring-painted Nubian ass. Seriously now.

I may be 100% homo, but Grace Jones was just about the hottest thing on 2 legs. She could be spectacularly butch and feminine at the same time. A stunning performer.

What the hell ever happened to her anyway?

May Day rules! One of the best Bond villians EVER!

Also, Slave to the Rhythm is such an awesome song (Citroen video, so cool).

Also, Strange' in Boomerang. She made that movie worth watching. Well her and Eartha Kitt.

Also, Katrina the vampire in Vamp. SWEET!

MoTown:

Hey, it's not like these are all that NSFW, and other than you, I don't hear anyone else complaining.

That being said, however -

Handsome???

Yeeech, if that's you're idea of "handsome" Charles, I weep for you.

Keith Haring is more attractive than Charles Baudelaire.

Attractive poets since Baudelaire: Dorothy Parker, John Ashbery (in their respective youths).

Attractive poets since Baudelaire, provided that you're into absolutely monumental noses: Anna Akhmatova.

He didn't write much poetry, but the brilliant Argentine writer Julio Cortazar was ridiculously good-looking (if you're into single eyebrows that look like a raven in flight). He's actually the subject of a widely published coffee-table book down there. Has an American writer ever been memorialized in such a fashion?

I've been singing her praises for 20+ years (boy, am I old!). Sly and Robbie, too, since they contributed substantially to her best work. It's funny, but I just ordered "Nightclubbing," which I used to plunder often in the radio daze. For me, it's all about, um, "Pull up to the bumper, baby / In your long black limousine / Pull up to the bumper, baby / Drive it in between..." And those covers! "Walking in the Rain," "Demolition Man," etc. Amazing stuff. I sincerely hope time has been kinder to her than to Brigitte Nielsen. Yipes!

Yeats was possibly (before the Irish war for independence) one of the best looking men ever to walk the earth. Maybe he got his looks from Baudelaire, too.
