Wow. That was unbelievably stupid. I thought it might be a *little* funny, but no. I'm still trying to figure out if that was canned laughter or real laughter.
Gee, it seemed pretty much racist. Why is it right wing humor involves things like death, racisim or a variety of other phobias? I give this show about three weeks and it will be gone.
Zing! oh man they really got us, they really did. We're so fucked, they've perfected animatronics for anchor people, no longer can we make fun of FOX anchors who act like robots, when they are robots. How is this show any different than O'Reilly, just the laugh track?
Wow, that was lame. No one will honestly find this show funny. There will be some Republicans who will watch, and force themselves to laugh, because they feel they need a comedy show to call their own. But it will be duty, not entertainment.
i'm pretty impressed. i thought it would at least be a *little* funny, but they've managed to be truly horrible. they get that the daily show makes fun of democrats too, right?

It seemed kind of on the level of Jay Leno. Half-funny, and then you forget it. Not a show like Colbert or Stewart, although they certainly have their unfunny or groaner moments too.
Hey you! Yep, definitely canned. If you can stand it, listen to it again two or three more times, especially the last third, and you'll notice the laughter sounds almost exactly the same at each "punchline", with a couple of small titters thrown into the quiet moments to make it sound somewhat spontaneous. I'm guessing if you stripped out the laugh track and looked at it using an audio editing program you'd find it's exactly the same track used over-and-over.
Which means, the show is so bad even the guy doing the "sweetening" was too bored to put much effort into it.
I didn't think it was that bad. TDS has done a far better job of poking at Obamamania, but this was OK. Clearly, they need better writers, but at least they're trying.
Interesting that they're going for more a 22 Minutes format than TDS, though that set is a total ripoff of both TDS and Colbert.
I don't think you people are appreciating how ground-breaking this is. Not the fake-news-show-satire-on-current-events angle, which as other commentors have pointed out has been done to death. But a humor-free comedy show? Genius! Not since the fat-free potato chip have we seen a product this bold and innovative.

John Stewart helped us laugh when we needed it. Satire from conservatives at this moment in history is only going to come off as bullying. If they could find people to laugh at this stuff, they wouldn't need the laugh track.
Thanks, I think I'm coming down with the flu and I can't tell if this is real or not. Is it a parody of a parody of a parody, or just stupid? Poster at 21 seems to have nailed it.
This show will appeal to all these white college students who think ghetto/gangsta/ho/favorite black celebrity parties are the foshizzle.(and so original!) The republican/right wing "comedians" always go for the most tired and hacky racist jokes. Then they whine about how liberals, black people, etc have no sense humor.
Or that their lame joke is "just like what Richard Pryor/Chris Rock/Dave Chappelle/other famous black comedian says, why can't we use racial humor?". Yes those comedians use race, but add some twist that makes the joke different from 19th century minstrel shows or a KKK recruiting pamphlets. Also they are actually funny. Black audiences would have sent those comics back to their day jobs if they weren't, long before whites could ever hear of them.
It's even doublely worse when you consider the "vehicle" for this "humorous" piece on Obama was done in the style of a parody of Oprah's "O Magazine", so really they were trying to make fun of two black people in one segment.
OK, Fox...I've got some notes on your new show here...
1) On the joke about Obama's cocaine admission lowering his approval rating among Democrats to 99.9%. I've got a major "false premise denial" issue with that--since Hilary is leading in most of the polls... Satire is very susceptible to false premise denial--and an audience can't laugh at satire they can't believe in. Rework to say the same thing (Democrats may be willing to overlook things in their scramble to harness Obama's magnetism and star quality) but in a believable way.
2) The Marion Berry joke is a thin surface reference, not really a joke. It's a mistake that many beginning comics make. You need to take the idea further to make this smear-by-association into being a joke. Suggest alternative "He's locked up that all-important Marion Berry endorsement...and he's gotten a knowing wink from Tom Sizemore's people."
3) A fart joke. Really? Oh...that's right. This is Fox. I remember "Married...with Children" too.
4) BO magazine. Again. This is the best you could do?
I understand that there's problems over at Studio 60...maybe you could steal Matt Albie to help your writing staff come up with some better material--as you'll need it since you seem to be ignoring the "hierarchy of superiority" rule in comedy (spoken well by matt in this very thread, where comedy becomes bullying when done haves against the have-nots.)
Too bad Matt Albie isn't real and this pathetic example of Fox News Comedy is...
pg
PS--This was bad...but it never had a chance to be good.
Wow. So many levels of lameness. Excellent analysis from lots of you.
I expect in the next episode they'll troll out some Obama rap song, sung the way white people mocked rap back in the 80's...
I'm Barak Obama and I'm here to say,
I'll let you get married if you're gay!
Boop ba doop, ba bee bee boop!
Boop ba doop, ba bee bee boop!
Once in high school, I was in a play that was so awful we actually paid a few audience members to laugh at the jokes extra-conspicuously, in the hopes that they'd brainwash the real audience into thinking the show was good.
Those people made a noise very similar to this show's audience.
Definately a laugh track during some of that, which as we all know, is the laughter of people now mostly dead. There must be a metaphor in there somewhere.

The joke may have been funny (to conservatives, at least) if the drug use had made Obama's approval rating go up, beause, of course, Democrats love drugs and are soft on crime.
Yes, and they can do it because they're black. It can be funny when a member of a group makes fun of their own kind. It's usually self-deprecating and/or ironic. When Jon Stewart jokes about Jews in Hollywood, it's funny. When Bill Donohue does it, it's anti-Semitic.

Wow. These were the funniest people the GOP could find?
Boy, even the canned laugh-track sounds bored.
They say that the only difference between comedy and tragedy is timing. Apparently these guys decided to err on the side of tragedy?
Wow. That was unbelievably stupid. I thought it might be a *little* funny, but no. I'm still trying to figure out if that was canned laughter or real laughter.
Completely unfunny. Not offensive, nothing I really disagree with. Just not humorous.... but I do want a "don't tell Mamma, I'm for Obama" t-shirt.
Gee, it seemed pretty much racist. Why is it right wing humor involves things like death, racisim or a variety of other phobias? I give this show about three weeks and it will be gone.
I don't know, I thought the first 2 jokes (the ones about coke) were funny. The 'newscasters' seem like a stilted version of the SNL newscasts.
So, Fox News is launching a smear campaign on Obama based on the fact that people really like him? Hmm. Curious.
And it seems to be a foregone conclusion that black people love them some crack-cocaine. Am I right? Ladies??
such a sad little oxymoron, conservative 'humor'. i think that for the fox news audience, this might have some staying power.
Torture is fun, right boys and girls?
All hail the God Emperor!
Zing! oh man they really got us, they really did. We're so fucked, they've perfected animatronics for anchor people, no longer can we make fun of FOX anchors who act like robots, when they are robots. How is this show any different than O'Reilly, just the laugh track?
Was that a parody of a parody? I'm confused.
Wow, that is crap. Unmitigated crap.
Wow, that was lame. No one will honestly find this show funny. There will be some Republicans who will watch, and force themselves to laugh, because they feel they need a comedy show to call their own. But it will be duty, not entertainment.
Wow, they couldn't even come up with an original name for it. Lame, lame and more lame.
i'm pretty impressed. i thought it would at least be a *little* funny, but they've managed to be truly horrible. they get that the daily show makes fun of democrats too, right?
It seemed kind of on the level of Jay Leno. Half-funny, and then you forget it. Not a show like Colbert or Stewart, although they certainly have their unfunny or groaner moments too.
It might appeal to Fox News' 70-90 year old viewership, though.

Matt is smart.
I really hope TDS does a segment on this.

Advil stat.

Dougsf @31:
Harlan Ellison wrote a great piece on that very subject. You can find it in one of his short story collections, "Angry Candy".
Thanks Comte, I'll actually search that out.
