The dude (before the handlers got a hold of him) was straight up about his bigotry. Bradley alluded to this ("at least he was being honset..."). Call me crazy, but I find it more irritating when someone expresses the *exact same* sentiment, but is too chicken S or self deluded to say, "I'm a homophobe, I hate fags." At least you know where you stand with this dude.

@ Mike in MO: I understand that theory (blatant _____-phobia is better because you know where you stand), but I personally think it is worse than a person who is privately homophobic, whatever. The reason is that people who are indifferent (say, kids who have yet to make up their mind) won't be influenced by, say, Hardaway's negativity if he just kept his opinions to himself. But, they see an admired sports figure (or someone else) openly bash gays, and they may think that's okay to do.

One wonders if Hardaway would have a problem setting the police dogs and training the fire hoses on any gay players that appeared in his former locker rooms.

It's inspiring that given the atmosphere of any pro locker room, gay athletes remain determined to compete.

It’s the “we’re not sexist/racist/homophobic and don’t want any discrimination, except when it matters like for human and civil rights” lies that are the most appalling.

Truly, we are living in the Golden Age of Hypocrisy; in fact, saying one thing then doing the opposite seems to be America’s core value.

I’d rather have someone like Barbara Madsen or Master Pastor Ken Hutcherson, et al just admit that they’re prejudiced bigots who hate gay people than go through some sleazy charade about how they just don’t agree with us.
