this is amazing, but am I the only one who remembers the equally preposterous musical number from the 1986 Oscars featuring Jack Klugman, Dom DeLuise, and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita singing the "I've got the horse right here/His name is Paul Revere" song from Guys and Dolls?

Let's hope so.

o, bradley. that was the greatest oscars in history---i've reflected upon it myself at something resembling length (http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=10168). but don't forget pat morita (karate kid, the original "al" from happy days) sang the opening number that year with dom delouise and someone i forget, and dancers dressed like tables from the coccunut grove boogied and booped chairlessly in thier checkered tablecloths as the avademy trotted out ancient geezers like (now dead dead dead) vincet price to take a final bow, and later, such glorious "up-n-comers" as christian slater and rikki fucking lake did a big sappy ensemble number, singing about how great it will be when THEY finally win THEIR oscars (bwahahaha! christian slater and rikki fucking lake!!! still waiting...) ahhh...the oscars. it has, indeed, been all downhill ever since....

That whole clip was worth it to see Cyd Charisse's legs.

I really miss the dance numbers at the Oscars. C'mon people. It's not the frickin' UN, it's HOLLYWOOD.

The only thing that pains me more than having just watched all 9 minutes of that schlock is to realize that all those performers practiced the whole thing for days on end. Again. And again.

Does anyone doubt that Anna Nicole Smith will get a segment in this year's montage of dead movie stars and technicians?

By the way, the Motion Picture Academy had to issue a public apology for the Robe Lowe number after Disney threatened to sue for defamation of cartoon character.

that was really awful... but i too concur with contentment grrl's assessment of cyd's legs (wow!) and up the ante with the great vincent price and his much beloved wife, coral. RIP dr. phibes.
