EVERYONE RELAX - the leadership won't change at this point. If Lieberman defects the current Democratic leadership structure remains in place. The committees will still be chaired by Dems, and Reid will still be Majority Leader.

Besides he said he'd do it only if they vote to cut funding - I don't see the Senate Dems actually going ahead and doing that.

The Beef industries of Canada & the U.S. are intertwined like lovers and the animals have been going back & forth across the border FOREVER.(My father-in-law is a beef cattle farmer with a fairly large herd.)

Furthermore, the USDA is quite likely covering-up the fact that BSE & the Prion Diseases are EVERYWHERE. Which isn't hard considering most Canadians and Americans don't have the foggiest fucking idea what the disease actually is and does.

The rule is under APHIS-2006-0041-0001 in the Federal Register (feel free to comment if you so choose - this part of "the process" works for you. Just put something more thought-provoking than the "I like cows!" contributor managed to do.) The rule authors actually refer to the recent cases of Canadian BSE as anomalies that are considered "statistically negligible" in the passing of this new rule. Hmmm, because obviously no one cares about the occasional mad cow...
