Something that may have been missed. I was listening to part of Young Turks on Air America this morning and I swear one of the hosts was saying he does not support making hate crimes against gays a hate crime specifically. Will someone clear that up for me? It really freaked me out since it is supposed to be a liberal radio show.....

Also, the U.S. trade deficit sets another record, but I thought Bush said it was going to be halved by the time he left office. Or was that the budget deficit? I'm such a confused creature on these things.

If Bush says it will be halved, it has been halved. Don't look at the numbers; just keep your eyes on the grindstone and everything will be fine. Don't question the Decisionator.

hey all
I know there are some freedom fighters on the Stranger staff... Will you post something about the War on Drugs Panel Discussion tonight?
Feb 13, 6PM, UW HUB Auditorium
Retired Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper and King County Councilmember Larry Gossett will be there.
Free for students and $2 for general public. (I honestly don't know why they are charging money, but at least we know it goes to a good cause.) Thanks.

Maybe I missed it, but Dan, did you catch the story of that Pennsylvania man put his toddler out in the winter cold after she refused to go back to bed? The mite froze to death.

Also, maybe Erica: the story about a stripper who sued a police officer for spooging on her after he pulled her car over on the road, but didn't win, partly because she was an "overtly sexual" person anyway?

C'mon, guys!

Re: Nothing to see here:

Hey, sometimes there's just no other way to get your point across than by bustin a cap in someone's ass. And who knows, maybe the whole thing was planned ahead of time by those tied up and the ones dead were actors(or desperate people), all so that the stock price would jump from the news attention and free advertising of the company name right before the company went public... Too bad the cops couldn't remember what that was...

Since it looks like we are going to get a super-sized new viaduct shoved down our throats -- does anyone know if the city has naming rights? I'd really like it to be called the Gov. Christine Gregoire Viaduct so future generations will know who to blame for the monstrosity.

Check out Mitt Romney's campaign Web site and one of his FANTASTIC bloggers has discussed his great speech.

Over here Ann says that she is a "big speechLESS" about the speech.

I just hope not all of his campaign people are like this. But considering my knowledge of the fine Mormon folk of my upbringing, they probably are.

OK, that might not be his official site. It's just a blog for Mitt! Still classy.

It is almost halfway through the legislative session and The Stranger has yet to say DIDDLEY SQUAT against the god damn NASCAR track that YOUR Legislators are trying to shove up Kitsap's ass.

Now we just have to get our own dear leader to give up his nukes. Oh wait, he is white. My bad.

There's a great article from our friends across the border this morning called Life's Harder in Seattle, about a book that compares hotel workers in Vancouver and Seattle and concludes those who work in BC have it MUCH better than those who work in hotels here. Which may not be news, but the underlying rationale is worth a look.

Doesn't everyone in BC have it better?

@14 - yes.
@2 - both are bad, both are debts, but don't forget how much we borrow too.
@7 - more like the Gary Locke Viaduct - sitting Governors don't get structures named after them. Better than the Norm Rice Tunnel of Greed.

re: Romney - AP actually referred to him as "the strikingly handsome candidate."

Wow.

He's a Red, Mitt is, so he already starts 20 points down in a world where 63 percent of Americans want our soldiers back soonest or yesterday. Ain't gonna happen.

Apparently, a substitute teacher in Connecticut could be sent to prison for up to 40 years because seventh grade students momentarily saw pop-up porn images on her computer which could have been spy-ware generated.

These cases aren't just in the South.

Lunacy. Total lunacy.

Guns kill people. We need to have all gun owners registered in a national database. Also another problem is HIV. Every year HIV and AIDS causes the deaths of many just like guns do. Using this logic we should also register all gay men who are the main cause of the spread just as all gun owners are the cause of gun violence. During the registration, we need to do STD tests on the men, like a background check if you will. Then we'll need to mandate another safety measure called "lock up your cock". This would mandate mandatory condom use during gay intercourse. This would be similar to a mandatory trigger lock program. With all this legislation we can rest assure that our children will be safe from the evils of guns and HIV. As the War On Drugs has shown us, we can successfully legislate people's behavior by preventing them access to certain items, in this case guns and bareback cocks.
