They have rehab for Knob-Licking. That's where Ted Haggard went.

I fully expect Newsom will call a press conference to disclose that he was also:

A) Abused as a child
B) A child of alcoholics
C) Molested by his parish priest
D) All of the above

I believe this, actually. He owns three bars, a winery, and his brother-in-law was a major share-holder in a distillery.

Per 2, Dan, don't forget Mark Foley on your list!

I would say the "or something" is actually "running for re-election later this year."

Ari, you are a genius. If you weren't a man I'd want you to have my babies.

Will Mayor Newsom be attending the same rehab clinic recommended by astronauts?

Going into rehab is the new "fuck all you all".

so maybe that explains why he never does any actual work at city hall--he's been too drunk! (although he sure looks sober in the copious footage of him showboating for the press).

Dear Eric Grandy- thank you for helping in the fight to illuminate the world on the subject of my gender. This will not be forgotten, mark my words.

Rehab is the modern monastery. Rather than retiring to monastic life to atone for our sins, we must enter rehab, where confinement, relative deprivation, and counselors who provide moral guidance have replaced the Benedictine Rule.

I swear I want to open a bar called REHAB. Portland already has a bar called Betty Ford!

I believe there's a REHAB bar in NYC already. Also, despite seeking points for going to a local facility that treat some of city's worst cases, he's doing it on a "special outpatient" program.

If anything, all this press coverage is an interesting indication on how dirty SF politics has really come into the modern age. I'm sure as hell not saying I want to go back to the "old days", and I don't know how they all did it.. .BUT this shit would never have been front page with Brown, Feinstein, or Agnos... and lord knows they had their skeletons (actually, scratch Feinstein off that list).

It should also be noted that although most of America probably finds Mayor Newson a symbol of San Francisco liberal politics, which I guess ads a bit of spin to all this, San Franciscan's are likely to still remember him as the more conservative, big business friendly (he's a surroget Getty) candidate of a not-to-distant, and widely considered not-very-on-the-level (i.e. ballot boxes washing up in the bay) election, beating out a much more left and very beloved populist underdog, Matt Gonzales.

What I'm getting at is this: while half the nation is thinking "look at what those liberals out there get up too!", half of of San Francisco is thinking "look at what those yuppies up in Pac Haights get up too!".

Sorry, San Francisco, but you guys officially have the most boring sex scandal ever right now.

Even the Spokane one was tons more exciting.

Alcohol rehab for politiicans involved in sex scandals goes back at least a decade.

CNN: "Republican Sen. Bob Packwood of Oregon, forced to resign in 1995, claims his sexual harassment of several woman stemmed from alcohol abuse. Packwood cited the drinking problem and underwent alcohol counseling while his case was being reviewed by the Senate Ethics Committee."

I won't be surprised if he did have a drinking problem. He did show up drunk to a police officer's memorial and the woman he had an affair with is an alcoholic. But, why can't he just go and get sober and not bother the rest of us with it. If he has a problem, fine get help. But, he's doing out patient so it's not like he's going to be away or anything.
