The Wire's Stringer Bell (actor Idris Elba) has gone off to the land of romantic comedies. With none other than career killer Gabrielle Union. Daddy's Little Girls features Elba as a struggling mechanic with three girls who falls for a successful attorney, Union. I won't even go into the weird race and class contortions performed by the genre of the black romantic comedy. I'm sure there are real experts out there. Here's my debate: will the sappy movie kill this gorgeous man's career? Or will his cred from the Wire save him? Maybe the cool kids who follow the...

Yeah, someone would actually have to see this movie for it to hurt his career. I think he's safe.

Now if he signs on for anything with the words "rush" or "hour" in the title he might have some trouble.

Peeps will see it. Some folks have never recovered. Remember RICKY from Boys N the Hood? Being capped in Boys N the Hood was the best acting he ever did.
Shit, after he did the Wood and a bunch of other horrible flicks, he was never heard from again. But he got paid.

"Stringer Bell" did a great film for HBO called Sometimes in April (http://www.hbo.com/films/sometimesinapril/) , which I thought was a better film than Hotel Rwanda. Check that out to see his range. I am gonna watch this upcoming flick cuz I like to watch the death of a promising actor.

These romantic comedies can be cash cows though, I mean you dont see Forest Whitaker or my boy Don Cheadle doing them, on the other hand, Mos Def did do Brown Sugar which was unwatchable, and possibly the worst film ever made on Hip Hop, besides Breaking, but he seems to have survived it, thanks in no small part to his Mos def appeareance on Chapelle's concert flick. Romantic comedies also killed my boy Omar Epps who did a great film called Juice with the young 2pac Shakur and a couple of other good flicks, but then did some romantic comedy called love and basketball and he has not been heard from again. RIP.

Come to think of it is a good thing Brother Mazone took care of Stringer in Season 3. RIP.

Joining forces with Tyler Perry is a great way to get attention, since his movies always do well at the box office. Too bad they're *horrible* (I've had to review a few in a professional capacity). I guess Elba wants to establish himself in the US. So be it; I just hope it's his last. And I second the props for "Sometimes in April." Incidentally, Omar Epps stars on "House," one of the top-rated shows on TV. I'd say he's doing all right...
